All i done was unplug the door switch on the door where the interior light works from so the ute thinks the door is closed, you do loose the interior light.

I want to do this mod. However I'm concerned it will affect my contaminated fuel alarm. Does anyone know away of testing the fuel warning alarm so that I can test it after doing this mod?

Hey peeps...noobie here, but need to let you all know something... :)

When you take anything off that removes warning sounds, there is a flow on effect when it comes to diagnostically programming new keys via the OBD11 port.

IF you ever need to have new keys diagnostically programmed into your car, PLEASE let the auto locksmith/technician KNOW what you have disabled BEFORE he proceeds.

Although diagnostic programming is relatively quick, IF he meets with a car under the above circumstances, I can PROMISE you he will be tearing his hair out in a very short time

MOST common problems in "failing to communicate " with the vehicles' on board computer are simply a blown fuse....BUT....any warning chime once disconnected will also show a "fail to communicate" on the tecnicians Tester/programmer.

I can pass this on from experience 8-)

Anyways, just thought I would mention it, so all would be aware of this potential situation down the track.

Cheers & Beers, Ray.

Hey Guys

Thxs for all the info :)

Now I can reverse my tailer - without the seat belt on, which is actually legal in oz, but the Lux was still beeping at me - well not anymore.

Also I can now listen to the stereo without the beeeeepppppppppiiiiiiiinnnnnnngggggggg !!!!

I completely understand how the seat belt mod. works, I have 30+ years of soft. eng. a lot of it process control of infrastructure & this mod. is changing a memory location from 0 -> 1 or 1 -> 0 that tells the CPU to ignore seat belt monitoring - simple, happy with this one.

But hardware mods are a bit more of a concern to me.

I have notice a number of ppl talking about air bags not deploying with the key in ignition mod., if this was a possibility then my thinking has come to - if you are sitting in the LUX in the break down lane & you get a 'kiss' on the back bumper then the bags would only deploy if the key was in the ignition ???

I have re-read this post a few time & I know that other ppl who are much more experienced with the LUX have said that it is a different circuit & I am certain that they are right.

I have done some 'binging' & 'googling' & cant find any definitive answer, maybe we can ask our 'mechanics' about the above scenario ???

Do bags deploy only if key is in the ignition ???

Bags go off when computer tells them to, over certain speeds too I believe. So I very much doubt they'd go off stationary with engine off.

As I understand it , srs system doesn't use that ignition wire in any of its scope / logic. Not sure what it does ??

I have spent a lot of years listening to that anoiying sound and might still be for a few more. A good mate of mine is a senior tec at Toyota. To his knowlage you can not turn off that beep with the computer. No toyota dealer will remove or advise to remove the wires in the IGN as to many other known and un-known items are connected to this. As I am new to this forum had just read all the post on this matter. I was told about the safety belt beeper years ago.
If you remove the wires at the ignition you are messing with the way the computer ("might or might not function") after an accident your insurer might find out the wires has been removed and they will not pay-out.
The computer they plug into your ute during service will indicate that things are not working correctly (due to the wires removed at IGN) if it is not a major system warning the tec will assume it just a gremlin.
Working as a fire and rescue on the jaws of life team I have seen a few Hilux with bull bars in a very bad shape.
I prefer to listen to that beep, beep, beep that is driving me nuts every day than not to know if my airbag might or might not work.
Best of luck

Considering that the interior light fuse also stops the computer from retaining memory for the time and trip computer, who knows what this wire is connected too...

If you wanna listen to your stereo, leave the drivers door closed and have the window down perhaps? lol 8-)

I doubt it would stop an airbag, there's guys on here saying the wiring diagramme shows it won't. Whatever the case, it's that annoying to me that I'm willing to risk it. I know a fair few people who have unplugged the plug under the seat to stop the seat belt beeper and as far as I 've heard that does affect the airbag. I find this ironic that a supposed saftey alert acctually indirectly causes the car to be less safe in many cases.
