EGR valve block off

May well be due to something you did, or didn't do when fitting it and putting everything back

A vacuum hose left off ? Something kinked or not plugged in ?

If you haven't already done so, try pulling off the top cover so you can see everything and have a good careful look for anything that doesn't look right.

What is the number of the fault code being thrown?

How did you clean your intake, did you hit the internal sensors with anything ect?

Ive got a few questions in regards to the EGR block off. Seeing as though there is many topics on this forum about the subject Ill ask here:

Where does the overboost go once the egr is blocked?
Does the block if the overboost has nowhere to go cause turbo stall?
Is or has anyone actually used a method to prove their statements, IE: Using sensors or diagnostic tools.

Look at the image below and trace the way the intake works, on boost, off boost & over boost.

If people would like, can make it a separate topic to keep this one clear, this question is directed to the people with 1kd knowledge to more of an engineering sense.

Many thanks!

From what I've experienced with mine is after I put the plate in(with 7mm hole) it actually helps maintain turbine speed helping it to come on boost a little quicker down low. Cos i have a very open exhaust when ya back off ya can hear the gas passing thru the 7mm hole.

Unsure mate. I dont have a scan guage.
I did stop at a mechanics this morning to clear the code but even woth his snap on gauge it wouldn clear it.
I used a degreaser and the maf cleaner aswell as a rag to run the crud off.

Is that the sensor u r refering too?

Hey mate seen you said you have an open exhaust
You mean like a 3 inch system straight through no dpf/cat and muffler?

If thats the case is yours manual

Mine is an 07 so no stupid dpf! I made my own 3 inch exhaust system, 3 inch dump, no cat, just a small resonator to take the bark out of it and dupmed over the diff. Yes mine is a manual.

No worries mate I have a 2006 model, with a redback extreme duty 3 inch but ive swaped the dump pipe to a straight through. And briught a straight pipe that replaces muffler. However have no put a plate in may be helpful. As far as power it isnt to bad but i have chipped it and have a sprint booster so it all helps lol

Is there a high flow cat convertor on that system?

That will deal with extra exhaust gases, awesome.
Cooperjp. Anthony and myself did a lot of testing with the 7mm restrictor plate. Yes, this included diagnostics with two different scan/diagnostic tools. I have a genuine unit and a G scan II.
Guys in Melbourne were already fitting plates, the High Country boys, but it hadn't been tested out, so that's what we did. The restrictor plate with the 7mm hole came up best with all the testing. It's enough to let the over boost through and restrict the exhaust gases to minimum. Around the 90% mark for the exhaust gases.

No more of this, and cleaning. Also helps preserve the EGR cooler, because it doesn't have the stupid volume entering into and being filled with exhaust gases.

I hope this helps out people on this subject.

Is there a how to section for this install. ive been through the whole thread and read up, i am handy swinging a wrench so i feel i will be OK. but instructions are always better.

gasket between the plates - not necessary i read?, could you use one of those gasket makers (the wet silicon ones that come in the tube)?

any other "pressure points" in this, or things that you should do to make it easier / not break anything?

Ive put a gasket each side but apparently not necessary, as long as you have one between the plate and the head. I wouldn't use sealant. There is a how to somewhere but just have a dig. Depending on the plare ya got ya can pretty much just loosen the nuts and slip it in if ya lucky enough. You have to disconnect the electrical plug thats in the way of one of the bolts. Sometimes you have to loosen the bolts for the whole egr cooler to get enough play to slip the plate in. Do NOT go flexing the cooler to much or you may rupture the internals and you end up getting coolant in your engine.
