How To - DIG Options TP09X1 Unit Install Part 2 Camera Done!

Re: DIG Options GPS

Postby Steve9R on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 7:50 +0000

yeah yours is different to dig_options ones though Alby..

re: digital tv. No the aerial is only tiny (about 10cm tall) and has a magnetic base. the cable isnt long enough to reach your bullbar. check out pradopoint for heaps of discussion on the dig_options units too.. they have tried all sorts of 3rd part digital aerials.. but Matt dosent supply them..

Make sure you mention newhilux to Matt though !

as i mentioned earlier the sound quality is much better as the dig_options units have 40w per channel. much clearer an better sound.

as i also mentioned, if the software isnt what you want it dosent matter as we can always replace it.

Installed mine last week ..
From what i have read here there are a few minor improvements
ie, Green buttons ( Not blue as before)
Sound quality is great ...radio reception is a fraction worse
I got analog tv working for WIN (channel 9 ) in W.A with a piece of wire as an aerial but need to work on improvements and other channels , Shit house while driving but this seems normal.
No digital in my area yet (comming a year ago ;) )
IGO8 is the real deal for eva, Not month trial
One samll issue i have is i keep gettting kicked out of aussie explorer when i adjust settings etc Prado point having same issues , good as gold while navigating just when i open a dialogue box

as Dig options did not have any stock, I offered them $500 and they accepted it. Comes with IGO8 preloaded. Sound quality, bluetooth and navigation, rear camera are all great, would happily get it again but don't know maybe the Dig one is still better again????

Hi Alby,

Mate do you use Ipod? If so is it gen 5 or 6?

Does it have full on screen Ipod integration with full function? does it charge while connected? Does it loose its memory after ignition is off cylced?

These guys have a much better Ebay page than Dig_options

Did you have much mucking around after the install to get it working or is it pretty much plug and play?

They say up to 07 on their Ebay listing, do you know if it will work with a 2009?
Cheers

Gruntre69

Don't know what model Ipods I have but I use 2 different ones, a Nano and the one that looks like an Iphone, both are less than 12 months old.
They both hold memory as in returning to the last song played when I turn the ignition back on, Via the touch screen I can access and play my playlists but cannot create or edit the existing ones via the head unit. It does not charge the ipod via this connection. There is a usb outlet as well so not sure if you could operate from that as an option if you wanted to control the unit via your Ipod handset??

The only thing is with the touchscreen, when driving a long it is a bit fiddly with big fingers and bumpy roads, trying to touch the screen where you want and is easy to hit the wrong song although I assume that this would be the case with all of these types of units.
Another option which I think Steve9R uses is to put his music files onto a memory card and access them from that rather than the ipod ????
The unit was very easy to fit, it has all the correct factory plugs, cannot comment on whether the 09 model is different but I suspect not.

Sound quality is heaps better.

Just one final note for consideration, I don't know how I would go should I need dealer support (hopefully will not have to find out) but at the price that is no biggy for me, there will be no tears at that price if I have to replace it down the track.
Perhaps with many more using the Dig Options one you will get better support???

Thanks Alby,

That an extremely helpful post. This forum is the Dogs Bollocks!

It seems like these 2 units are very similar other than screen res. Also interesting that your Ipods remember where they were playing and others report on here that Dig options does not. The factory system has this memory too which is pretty nice.

Can anyone who has recently installed Dig options report whether the IPod looses memory and whether the integration is the same as Alby reports on the latest unit? Too bad about the charging, not really a big deal though for anything but really long trips.

I don't want to harp on about the Ipod but in my opinion it is really important. I have 1 160 GB ipod with about 85 Gb on tunes so memory card is not an option.

I installed one late last year. I have an ipod classic and it doesn't lose memory. I can't access playlists through the unit though.

Has anybody tried plugging the Ipod into the USB port via the cable that comes with the Ipod? Does it give the same functionality (albeit limited) as using the D.O. cable? I suspect the Ipod will charge with the USB port. Does it show the music track info on screen?

I'll be happy to run with one of these if it doesn't lose memory and you can use Ipods own controls while plugged in. It would be a bonus if it works the same through the USB port and charging is also enabled for the later Ipod classics, Iphone and Touch versions.

Guntre69, electronics is not my area of expertise ( come to think of it I am not real good at anything :(  )
But I suspect that it would be similar to a non powered usb port....able to access information but not enough power provided to run or charge the item connected to it, I would say that with these headunits would require more power to run than the original units and the standard power loom that they connect to limits these extra functions???

That is my untechnical guess but I am sure others here could provide a more technical answer. Either way it would be no big deal to top your ipod up on a 240 volt inverter every now and then?

yeah they are non powered USB, so i doubt they'll have enough power to charge your Ipod.... i tried connecting a USB powered Hard Disc to it and there isnt enough power to power it..

As Alby said.. i run all my music off SD (8gb of it), so i cant comment on ipod connectivity...

Hmmm, don't know which way to go.
Cannot get any help so far from dig options which is frustrating, my old man is chasing one for his 200 series and he wants it soon as he's preparing to head to the cape in a couple of months.
Anyone have a number for dig options or is it email only?

I am also waiting for a reply e-mail from DIG Options regarding the new digital Tuner they told me was coming soon.

The problem is that they only 1/2 answer your questions and you have to keep asking for clarification. If they had of taken the time to send me a comprehensive reply, I would have ordered one by now (most likely).

DIG Options have new models coming out in 6 weeks. So I want to find out if they are worth waiting for....

Steve you have been a great help, thanks for your time but I have a few questions for them about the new model etc that you are unable to answer - so I need to ask them..

It would appear the FM radio reception problem is still unresolved....

Can you connect a rear screen to these units and have the TV working or a DVD (for the kids) while driving?

So as I see it to get this DIG Options unit set up and working, I will ned to buy the head Unit, the external Digital TV tuner, an FM reception booster from Supercheap and then there is getting the software for Oziexplorer etc.
Anything else?

Hopefully I can get some answers and the new model might have an integrated digital tuner and have addressed the FM reception issue....I can wait 6 weeks for that if I need to....

I dislike my radio aerial booster..(supercheap)
in my area it make a slight fm boost but in some area's while driving it is louder but has more static ...it is a better signal
BUT
It makes am radio disappear and no stations work..turn it off and am returns
So im removing mine
Maybe better results in other area's
With the aerial fully up i get all the stations and more, than the older unit...

Hey Fellas,

DIG has been a bit flat out lately trying to get this new model ready for the market, and as such has been a short of time to reply to emails etc.

Monster Rides is now an agent for these products so I will endeavor to get some answers for you on both this model, and the new one.

Cheers

Yes he replied to my e-mail as well. Apparently the new digital tuner is a new model external digital tuner from what I can work out.

I don't think he has any stock of any digital tuners at this time and is waiting for these new ones.

New model GPS units are 5 - 6 weeks away but not sure if it is only an additional more expensive unit that he will add to the range, or will be dropping the current unit...

Information is in short supply. He must be busy as his e-mail replies are brief.
