key in ignition beeper removal

Hi Manners,
guess we really need someone to come into this thread who has had an air-bag activated collision........ with this beeper mod effected.....

It was fast getting to the point that I would not have been overly concerned if the air-bag did not inflate....... the beeper had almost driven me to the point of not wanting the air bag to inflate - thank goodness this forum brought relief to the incessant noise..... and resumption of my will to live!.......

frats,
Rosco

Manners wrote:Hey Rosco,

thanks for the reply, mine is Jan 09 and i have the same grey wire, but the other is green with yellow trace and my understanding is that anything yellow is airbag.

Just don't want to jeopardise safety as much as i hate that beep

Any help appreciated

Manners

not everything yellow is airbags.. the reverse light wire for instance is a solid yellow..

Isn't it easier just to kill the beeper itself ? I just went to an electrician today and he took out the gauge panel and ... no beeper any more 8-)

:?: IF any of the ecu's can recognise that the beeper plug is disconnected then it must also be able to detect the beeper being killed or removed.
Still an open circuit I would reckon. :?

I checked the drawings. They only refer to :
To Check the key reminder warning buzzer operation.
Turn the ignition switch OFF with the key inserted into the ignition key cylinder.
Open the driver side door.
OK:
Warning buzzer sounds
If not:
3.INSPECT UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY
Remove the unlock warning switch.
Measure the resistance of the switch.
Standard resistance:
Tester Connection
1 - 2
Pushed (ON)
Below 1 Ω
1 - 2
Not pushed (OFF)
10 kΩ or higher

It does not refer to any issues with SRS. If it was the case a special warning would have been given. Unfortunately I do not have the logic diagrams and cannot say if there are other items connected to this. However, the headlight warning is handled in a similar manner and to me it is merely a reminder that the key is forgotton in the keyswitch. The door lock/unlock still work as normal with this switch disabled so no reference to the door locking logic.

mmm. seems risky that 2 dealers mentioned that disconnecting the plug will affect the airbag system. Next week I will try find the beeper and destroy that instead!! +rep for the seatbelt warning beep. no more seatbelts as i tear down the beach!! :D

key in ignition beeper removal

Postby TrentRyan on Tue, 26 Apr 2011 5:30 +0000

If it is the door that causes the problem and only when left open for a long period like when listening to music then why not fit a switch to the door circuit that fools the car to think the door is closed. Then around town you can have the warning and out bush the peace n quite?

I just pulled my speedo/temp/fuel gauge part of the dash and the buzzer is on the back of that! Popped the buzzer off with a screw driver, still have seatbelt warning lights but no alarms!

Awesome :-) removed the plug (green and greyish wire) from the key barrel mech. under the steering column, no problems at all.
Lock the car, wait, unlock car (don't open any doors), 30secs car re-locks.
Lock the car, wait, unlock car, open drivers door throw keys on seat, close door, car doesn't lock keys inside.. :-)
Lights left on reminder alarm still works.
Highly doubt the airbags will be effected by a switch that closes when the key is inserted.. :-)
Awesome Mod, much less annoying no more beeping :-)

(1)turn the car on , do not start engine(leave you foot off the
brake).cycle your trip reset knob until you it reads odo. turn the
ignition back off. wait a couple of seconds

(2) make sure seat belt is not fastened

(3)turn the ignition back on ,do not start the car(leave your foot off
the brake) as soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the
trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.

(4)keep your finger on the trip reset knob. fasten your seat belt, as
soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the odo display go
from xxxx ks to "b-on". at that time take your finger off the trip
reset
knob and press it again. it should cycle to "b-off". you should be all
set turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.
