i fixed the door beep by removing the wires off the rubber covered door close swiitch, in the door jamb
Any known side effects of this, it was very easy and seems to work.

Hey Guys

Firstly, you blokes are brilliant :!: , and yes, it IS much easier to read this site than the manual ;) , but FYI... I got out of my new Lux after driving home and was standing next to it admiring the Ironman Bullbar i'd just had installed, when 15 minutes after getting out and NOT locking it... FLASH, Click... Doors locked, and i have only done the seatbelt mod so far. Luckily the keys were in my pocket (and the spare's a few feet away). Hope this helps toward solving the ghosties in the Lux...

That method is to turn off the seat belt beeper.

You need to do the steering column removal and unplug cable method to stop the key in ignition beeper

I locked my keys in the 2009lux by disconnecting the door open sensor. Keys were on the front seat when I closed the door and then the dreaded 'click' :o happened. I have not done the above mods as I have just found this thread.

How many times do you have to tell kids not to play in the bloody car. :!:

On my recent trip to Fraser as I was packing up, my kids locked my keys in the car. The gravity of the situation didn't become clear until they saw their old man smash a rear window with the axe!!! :evil: :evil: :evil:

Needless to say, they were very quiet all the way home!! ;)

A little off topic, but wanted to share!!

Bump - Ok, finally got to do this....... and what peace we have found....
Mine is a March '09 SR-5 and I did not find the coloured wires mentioned above.
What I did find, however - was the white connector to the ignition barrel which is approximately positioned at 8 O'clock when viewed from the key entry location.
I pulled the connector off then inserted the key - silencio!

I wasn't sure if this was the correct connector as the leads in mine were: 1 = grey and 2 = blue and green.

I made a bridge connector with the ignition off and key in - and immediately the blasted (excuse pun) beeper chimed into it's usual droning........
I checked all dash illumination including the courtesy light on the key barrel - all appears to be unchanged.

I can appreciate that should (hope not, at $450) we lose a key and need replacement - I will simply re-connect the beeper prior to going to the dealer.....

Thanks to all who have averted my desire to strangle this persistent annoyance...

Mate of mine tried this trick and was very happy with the silence but the interior light wouldn't come on when you opened the door. Fixed it properly for him.

I don't think the following was posted......
The three screws mentioned will release the cowl from the steering column but it is necessary to "split" it to remove the lower half. It takes a bit of "doing" to get the cowl over the ignition barrel.... a bit of serious "jiggling" eventually finds the removal angle......

ive disconnected the two wires that cause the beeping with the key in but now the security light next to the mirror controls flashes constantly even once the engne is started, when the wires are reconnected the beep starts again but the security light stops flashing and only starts flashing again once the keys are removed.. anyone else noticed this?

Me too.... did the odometer trick for the seat belt beeper - worked first time. Then took me 3 minutes to find a screw driver and 2 minutes to disconnnect the ignition key beeper plug. Everything seems OK - thanks heaps for this thread, I can't believe I put up with the beepers for over a year! Are you guys sure about the airbag thing? Cheers - Mick

Hi Guys,

Keen to do this one however i was pretty sure the Green/yellow wire was airbag related, mine is an 09. Wondering if pulling the other wire out will affect the system

Manners,
as posted above - mine is a Mar '09 SR-5 - the wires to the connector on mine were coloured :-
1 = grey
2 = blue and green

The connector was at approximately 8 o'clock when viewed from the ignition key entry position.....

Hey Rosco,

thanks for the reply, mine is Jan 09 and i have the same grey wire, but the other is green with yellow trace and my understanding is that anything yellow is airbag.

Just don't want to jeopardise safety as much as i hate that beep

Any help appreciated
