Has anyone done this mod in the 2010 SR5 - and does the car lock itself? Would love to get rid of the beeping but..

some of the earlier posts mentions that the car will lock itself if you get out and leave the keys inside - that could be a worry..

I have done the mod & leave my keys in my car (2010 model) all the time.

It has not locked itself yet.

The way I see it, you have 2 choices:

The mod...... or

I can't believe it took me so long to get round to doing this since it only took two minutes!
If I unlock the car on the remote (but don't open a door) it re-locks itself in 25 seconds.
If I unlock the car on the remote, open and close a door, it DOESN'T re-lock. So, no chance of locking the keys in.
BUT I have cable-tied my service key up inside the engine bay just in case, there could be something in this that I haven't worked out. I might even lose my keys one day so what the heck?

I'm still trying to puzzle out what was said about getting the keys locked into the car after doing this mod. Has anyone managed to get the keys locked inside the car, coz I can't get my my SR to do it no matter how I try....

Billux had the issue with the vehicle locking it's self but that was because he did the mod differently. He disconnected the interior light switch at the door, so then the lux did not know you had opened a door and locked it's self.

That is the only issue I have heard of.

1. The car will lock itself with the keys in the ingnition
2.When you have the plug plugged in (the beeper will beep with key in the ignition) the security light goes outas soon as you put the key in the ignition. With the plug unpluged (the beeper does not beep when key is in the ignition) the security light does not go out until you turn the ignition on. No big deal really just a couple of things i noticed

(THANK GOD THE BACK WINDOW WAS DOWN ENOUGH TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AS THE SPARE KEYS WHERE MILES A

hoges1974 can you explain how you locked your keys in the car? I'm confused. :? I did this mod last year and have never had any problems.

Everyone just be advised that by unplugging the 'key inserted' sensor on the column, makes registering an extra key impossible. The ecu needs to 'see' a key inserted into the ignition barrel in order complete its registration procedure.

I'm pretty sure that this was posted earlier in this thread. I noted this in my log book as a reminder incase I ever need a key replacement. I hope I won't because I heard the new keys are ridiculously expensive......

If you disconnect the key beeper, you can't reregister a new key so it works with the immobiliser system. This is becasue the ECU does not know a key has been inserted so it can't register the new key with the immobiliser system.

Solution is to reconnect the beeper before reregistering a new key. Even better is not to loose any keys in the first place as they are very expensive to replace.....

i doubt the dealers would have it as it wouldnt be a toyota original part, you will be able to get them from any car audio shop, JB, strathfield, supercheap, autobarn etc

What a relief. No more beeping when I listen to the radio when cleaning the inside of the ute. 2007 4x4 dual cab.
This mod took no more than 5mins all up.
Thanks for the info.
