Second hand bullbar

Second hand bullbar

Postby GC_Hilux on Fri, 10 May 2019 9:35 +0000

Hi guys

I’ve just come across a Uneek 4x4 front bar in good condition at a smash repairer.

Any reasons why this would be bad idea?

The bar is compliant. My insurance company said I don’t have to list but they can note it on my file at my request.

It’s a straight bolt on, no cutting required.

Great price. Appreciate any feedback?

Cheers

Don't see why not, as long as it has the fitting hardware or you can get your hands on it from Uneek. Seem to recall you need to fit their recovery points too but you can reuse your fog lights, there's a YouTube video of them kitting out a Hilux I've seen.

They're a nice looking bar. I'd grab it, post up some pics if you go ahead.

Thanks mate

Yes all the kit is there, bash plate, mesh and recovery points. I’ve checked all the fitting bolts are there too!

Was looking at the Drivetech Rival bar for $2900 installed but this three times less installed by the repairer.

Cheers

First ask why it was removed!?? I work at a smash shop and usually only come off if damaged. Check all the mounts closely as the bar might look ok but the mounts may be bent. Just be careful!

I'd purchase all new bolts and nuts to fasten it. Bit of piece of mind so you don't have bolts snapping on the tracks due to stree fractures.

Thanks for the tips

It came off an insurance job and has a tiny scratch on the bar. Everything looks tip top.

I’ll post pics after the install!!

If you're doing it on your phone, the tapatalk app is easy. If on a PC at the bottom of the reply box is a link to imghostr site you can use.

Looks good mate, how close is the bar under the guards, lights and grill?? Looks really close in the pics and can be a bad thing.

Gday mate

I’ll measure this weekend, but heaps of clearance at the front. More so with the bar .

I’ll get a lift eventually too!!

No worries. Just looks really close! Anything less than about 20mm all round will rub on rough roads! Also, a lift isn't gunna change ya gaps unless ya talking about a body lift ofcource.

Ok thanks for the input.

I’ll measure it up and get back to you. The pictures look a bit worse than it is I think!

I’m a newb but thought a lift would be the next mod, or maybe rock sliders.

I’m curious now.

Thanks m8

Definitely 20mm plus at the front.

A little tighter at the back, but easy 20mm

It's the gap between the bar (which is rigidly mounted to the chassis) and the body (which is rubber mounted to the chassis) that is the issue. The body will easily move an inch in any direction relative to the chassis (and bar) on a rough road.

Yeah right, I’m an idiot but now I’m with you. Yes she’s pretty tight from memory. There’s definitely not 20mm under the headlights. Very tight on one side. Looks like it could be an issue on impact.

I’ll have a look this weekend, hopefully it’s an easy fix.

Update: If I loosen the chassis bolts I’m hoping I can adjust the bar to get 20mm clearance from the lights and maybe 10mm under the grill.

Yes it was these gaps I was concerned about not ya tyres lol. If your bar isn't pinned to the mounts then hopefully you can move it down a bit.
