Hey all. I have a 2017 HiLux SR5 Dual Cab and I was wondering which snorkel is better for the car. A safari snorkel or a genuine Toyota snorkel? I work in spare parts for Toyota and when we deliver parts to Pre Delivery I see more genuine snorkels fitted to Landcrusiers and HiLux. Is there a reason why this is? Thanks guys

Our sales guys don't push anything on anyone at all. I bought my car through work and no one pushed anything on me. They all told me different places to go to for more off road accessories, different ways to approach the setup, different ways to get the parts I wanted etc

Probably going to come down to looks really, I got a tjm airtek, it's quiet with wind noise and induction noise and from my opinion looks better then safari. . It's all much of a muchness. It's not religion, just a higher point of air intake.

I have a safari. A little wind noise at 110 km/hr. Induction noise is awesome when outside the car or with the window down. Only a very little noise inside cabin with the windows up. Really nothing when you are listening to tunes.

I have the genuine, with the windows up, don't hear too much, drivers window down, sounds like Stuart Little is flying a little jet plane next to me. I do like the induction noise. There are some small drainage holes on the bottom edge that I have covered with my hand cutting down the induction noise. I have a K&N in the airbox so it's probably a bit noiser than the standard filter.

I've heard that the genuine snorkels aren't a sealed box and is more of a raised air intake. For this reason i went the safari.

G'day all,

Was wondering if it's possible to change from a genuine Toyota snorkel to a stainless steel snorkel or will the cut already exisiting hole cut be too big for a new snorkel?

Cheers all

Yep - once you have a gen snorkel you are stuck with it unless you get a new side panel

I noticed the other day the genuine looks slimmer on the panel and up top compared to my safari airtek which has a chunkier side and it looks like a much larger "mouth".... a fair bit of induction noise... changes a lot from idle and even in idle will "talk" to you..

Most people don’t realize safari put a lot of R+D into there snorkels other then just looking good. That’s why they look So chunky compared to a lot of others.

From what I have Been told
When it comes to new designs.
They work out exactly how efficient the standard air inlet is. Aka they test it for its maximum throughput.
There standard v spec snorkels are designed to as a minimum have the same airflow as that reading. So no restrictions at all.
Then you have the ARMAX Performance line.
These have a minimum of 30% more airflow then standard to get the ARMAX badge.

Now that by itself is cool [emoji41] and gets a nice induction noise. but doesn’t really bring out its potential. And I am yet to find someone who says they notice the 3-4% performance increase from the ARMAX alone that Safari Claim.
Combine that with K and N filter, ECU and high flow Exhaust. Then you create a true beast. And if you wanna go completely illegal a DPF delete as well.
