ARB Tango Sport Lid

ARB Tango Sport Lid

Postby Merkin on Fri, 31 Mar 2017 5:02 +0000

Hi,
has anyone got one, or seen one of these in the flesh on a Gen 8 SR5?
specifically, im interested in the attachment up near the cab, and if the lids lets water into the tub when its lifted (and there is water on top of the lid) or whether there is a seal that diverts water over the front of the tub?
im thinking about a hard lid over a canopy for ease of removal when transporting larger items, also far more secure than a soft tonneau (and arguably more secure than a canopy with glass windows) then again, locks only keep the honest thieves out
the arb price is comparable to the toyota genuine ones (and includes central locking)
any input appreciated!
cheers.

according to the ARB price list online, its $2972.
that includes colour coding and the tango fitting system.

Wow, you could get one from Flat Top with remote control electric rams for less than that.

I have one. Here in NZ its called the Proform tango sports lid ( ARB just stuck their name on Proforms product lol)
There is a plastic seal running along the back so when you open no water gets in, actually works really well.
Theres also a seal running along the underside where the lid closes onto the tango rails.

Best thing about this set up is the Loadmaster cargo organiser, stops crap sliding everywhere which is great.

Hywellvdp,

How do you find the removal / refitting process ?

Is the locking system reliable ?

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay, I gave the car a good wash and wax - hopefully this will assist some of you in deciding whether you would like to go this way or not. Personally, I'm very happy with the ARB Tango. Whilst I like canopies - they're not my thing. If you didn't already know, the black channels running up the length of the Tango can be used for roof racks/trays. The unit is designed to hold 70-odd kg, but recommended only around 20kg if you were opening and closing the lid. I have a RhinoRack being fitted next week which I'll post up again.

It is lockable, but also works with your central locking. There is a touch pad under the rear handle that will unlock the unit (quite handy!). Inside is an ARB light which illuminates the trunk space very well.

Happy to answer any questions :)

looks good mate! mine will hopefully arrive middle of next week.
how good is the seal around the top of the tub?
im undecided if i will put the sports bar on or not - could you put a bead of silicone around the base of the base to help with water/dust ingress?
do the locks seem sturdy?

The seal seemed pretty good, mind you I haven't taken it anywhere to truly test it. A few drops got in on a high pressure wash so I wouldn't rule out that it may let a little water/dust in, but I think you'd be hard pressed finding something completely near airtight. As for the silicone, I would say that I think it is unnecessary at this point, my seals are still bedding.

The locks seem fine, I guess the hard lid itself is the deterrent, but it someone was hard-fixed onto getting in with a prying instrument, they could. The touch lock was actually a nice surprise. It's nice to chill on the tailgate sometimes, and that's been retained by this system, simply touching to open and opening the tailgate as usual.

Sounds good. Yeah I didn't want to go down the canopy path yet, but need something more secure and water/dust resistant than the soft tonneau I've currently got... I've got the toyota tailgate seal to help with the dust. Will wait and see how it goes! Cheers.
