installing warn 10000lb winch to toyota bar??

Postby Cpan on Tue, 23 Aug 2016 10:03 +0000

Hi Guys
Have a 2016 sr with a Toyota winch compatable bar and have just got a Toyota cradle. Have tried to attach the brand new warn winch to the cradle but looks like the winch rope will grind over the first window before it gets to the rollers. Rang Toyota and they are baffled as to the reason and Arb Nowra cant understand why the Toyota bar doesn't allow the wire/cable can't wind in from the bottom end first. Will be asking the Toyota fitout staff tomorrow as they were on a training corse today and weren't available to give any answers today. Does anyone have the the same queries as to why the their winch cradle is not allowing their winch rope/wire to feed from the bottom first without that ridiculous grinding on the first window? Looks like the winch needs to be mounted 2 inches higher to at least clear the first window to not touch the first window and make the fairlead.

What about simply putting the rope on the other way so it pulls from the top?

The older model hilux bars were the same as the factory option winch pulls the cable from the top. Not sure about the new hiluxs but they might be that way for the same reason.

I have a Fortuner with the Toyota alloy winch bar (same bar, same brackets etc). I installed a cheaper Domin8r winch and had the same issue. Most things online say the winch should feed from below, but for the toyota bar it has to feed from above. Simple fix is to turn the winch around and feed from above. Do not rewind the cable the other way.

If you need more info/pics let me know

^^^What he said. Turn your winch around so that it feeds over , not under. Pretty sure the brake design is the reason they tell you to spool it only one way. Added bonus is your cables are closer to the battery side as well.
