Also, whats the risk with just having the one strut installed with no cable on one side?

U must bend the mounting on the cabel to clear the ez cylinder(s) mine did not go as intended on one side and needed some bending.

Any chance you could post a photo of what you needed to bend to get the cable to fit in with the strut?

I've just fitted an ez down kit and noted a few things:

The top screw holding the original arm was not budging with a ratchet or my 18v impact driver (mechanic friend said he'd had success before with one) so I resorted to mole grips (vice grips) and it was easy.

The instrucions are ok but they've changed the design of the top damper mounting so instead of a clip holding it on it has a small bolt. It makes no mention of the torque setting for this and it could probably do with a washer as the damper hole is really close in size to the diameter of the bolt's head.

And the final annoyance, the cables don't stay inboard when pushing the tailgate back up so you have to locate them behind the slight indent in the tailgate metal which can only be done when you've lifted it up slightly. Not sure how to get around this and had me worried I'd assembled the cables incorrectly. Doesn't look like it judging by the photos and video clips I've seen.

*EDIT

Realised why it wasn't working, I'd missed out removing the black plastic wedges and now the cable retracts.

Awesome product as not only does it slow the decent but makes closing easy too. See the demo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWFWs0u ... e=youtu.be
It costs a Little more than just a strut but worth it, very easy to fit using all the existing holes and doesn't use any cable to support the tailgate as it keeps the factory steel supports.

Can you post photos of T-Lift? I want to see their torsion setup.

Is it similar to pro-lift?

How much is the T-Lift worth?

Can confirm 2x different ebay suppliers try to sell you trash.

Tried 2 different kits. Neither fit. First had strut stud mounts wrong length so you couldn't physically shut the tailgate. Threads were absolute crap, ran a decent die around them first before using.

Second kit the strut was the wrong length or something... was over it by then.

Got cash back for first, still waiting on second.

As always I think you usually get what you pay for... sounds like some are lucky though.
