ktmman1 wrote:Hi there. I have just bought a new SR5 and added $17k to the ute finance but not through the dealer. If you do it through the dealer you pay stamp duty on the accessories also. Just get an invoice off the dealer pick a better aftermarket bar (my personal opinion is the toyota bars are crap) and send to the finance company. The finance company then sends the money to the dealer and the aftermarket seller. Easy as that done it many times
Rhino bull bars is one that comes to mind, but a different kind of bar . I hear they are pricy.nickoslux wrote:Are there any brands available that are a total bumper replacement rather than having to butcher the bumper?
adamkberger wrote:There was a slight drop in the front end after the install. Unfortunately I forgot to measure the height before I began. There were two reasons for installing a bulbar. The first was that after getting the canopy fitted and installing roller drawers, the car was looking quite level, so some extra weight up front would sort that out. The second was that the ride was horrendous. Toyota have made the front springs to cater for a bullbar, but without it, it's too firm and was not very pleasant during our first trip away.
I did originally have it booked it at Toyota but because I had other things to install, such as driving lights and UHF radio, I decided on doing it myself. I don't like other people touching my car anyway and Toyota is lucky to have been allowed to assemble the car in the first place!
For anyone thinking about doing it yourself, the only hard part is the cutting. You have to cut the inner guard liners as well as the bumper. The bumper is easy as some templates are provided. I used a 12v jigsaw with a metal blade, but the instructions say to use a multi tool. Take your time on the inner guards as the instructions aren't that clear and you WILL see these cuts. Luckily mine turned out ok.
If you are installing a winch, you won't be able to install the lightbar where I have as the number plate lifts up into this area. I have pre wired for some Lightforce LED215's in addition to the lightbar. I used a genuine driving light harness PZQ59-89030 which was great as it connects straight into the fuse box and soldered the Lightforce plug on the end. The genuine harness is not compatible with the Newpro Tech switch that I used so some modifications were necessary to get the LED indicator to work.
