Factory Bars for 2016 Hilux. Yes or No?

Factory Bars for 2016 Hilux. Yes or No?

Postby pure mongrel on Thu, 17 Mar 2016 4:34 +0000

G'day,

After five years of a love hate relationship with an MN Triton (2 X 3rd gear rebuilds, a turbo rebuild and numerous limp mode riddled trips), I have ordered a new SR Hilux. Don't get me wrong I am not bagging Mitsubushi, I had a Pajero before that and loved every minute in it, I think I just got a lemon.

Anyway, I am wondering what your thoughts were on the factory bars currently available for the new Hilux? Should I get one of these and add it to my lease, or should I get an aftermarket one.

Normally I would get an ARB bar, as I had one on my Pajero and it was great ... but the one I put on the Triton began to rust without any bush work (quite frankly I was to worried I would not get home in the Triton so never really took it anywhere). Again I am not bagging ARB, I chalked it up to the Triton sharing its lemon qualities ;)

So while putting a factory bar on allows me to add it to the lease, I want't to make sure this vehicles build is right from the start. :D

I plan to take this new Hilux on many bush trips, but don't plan to tackle anything that requires major winching or getting the Ute at an angle that causes the wife to scream in terror (Well not to often anyway ;) )

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. :)

Ive replace a few of the factory bars with arb ones at work now. Honestly when i first seen the factory one I said youve got to be joking! The whole thing looks like it's made of recycled milo tins, its that thin! Wouldn't stop a bird!

You could probably have your dealer fit an ARB bar and add it to the lease.

I never thought of that aandy, thanks.

Toyzx I notice in your profile picture your Hilux has an Xrox bar. Happy with it?

the dealers are more than happy to tack just about anything you want onto your finance... its more coin for them in the end. I think they just get you to sign some disclaimer cause your fitting non-genuine Toyota parts.
mine is on the way with ARB bull bar, brush bars and side steps, safari snorkel, rear ladder rack and front adapter rack, spray in ute liner & spray on rust roofing (eg tectyl... they wouldn't even sell the electronic version). The only factory accessory I got was the tow bar.
problem is now I have to wait for the car to arrive in Aus and for everything to get fitted... AHHHHHHHH I want it now!!

I liked the look of the TJM bars. Compared them to the ARB bars at the Brissy 4x4 show last week. They had integrated recovery points standard and didn't jut out as far. The factory options are light because the front axel is rated up to 1450 kgs, so bars, armour, winch, spotties, 2nd battery and two big blokes up front and you could be over. I'm waiting for a GVM upgrade kit but the Lovells rep said theirs won't be approved federally until August.

I am having a genuine bulbar fitted after Easter. All accessories on my Hilux are genuine and I find them all to of excellent quality. The new bullbars are made in a brand new factory in Cambellfield Vic. I have seen one in the flesh as my local dealer has one on display. They look the goods and are of exceptional build quality. I can post some pics if you like once it's fitted? They are pricey at around $2600 fitted but I guess that comes with being made in Australia.

It's in the latest "March" price list?.. About 1500 + fitting I think....Pretty sure it only came out a few days ago. It says the narrow bodied version is still under development.

Thank you all for responses.

Good to hear so many varied opinions.

Would love to see the photos when done adamkberger.

Side question about Xrox bar (as I'm not skilled enough to build a bar myself ;) ) Do they protect everything? There seems to be big gaps in them?

The new Rhino 4x4 bar looks good but way over the top with price at a quoted $3280.

I ordered the ARB Summit front and rear bars 2 Months ago and still have no time frame, The rear bar is the issue. Was quoted around the $5k for both bars colour coded and fitted in Brisbane.

Hi all,

I opted for the factory premium steel bar. I understand that ARB may have the contract for this? It looks very "ARB".

If you want any particular close-in shots on parts of the bar let me know & I'll take some tomorrow.

Cheers

Dave, by the rims I'm guessing that's as SR. I notice your bar has the led driving lights. As that is not a feature of the SR, did you have to pay extra for them?

Hi there. I have just bought a new SR5 and added $17k to the ute finance but not through the dealer. If you do it through the dealer you pay stamp duty on the accessories also. Just get an invoice off the dealer pick a better aftermarket bar (my personal opinion is the toyota bars are crap) and send to the finance company. The finance company then sends the money to the dealer and the aftermarket seller. Easy as that done it many times :D
