I imagine this has been discussed a few times, but I managed to put in about one and half litres of unleaded into my current model diesel hilux. Can it get by with this small amount in the tank? Has anyone tried syphoning these tanks?

Only one and a half?? It be fine if thats all ya put it, just top it up the rest with diesel.

I dont think they can be siphoned , here are too many bends in the filler tube , and i dont remember seeing a drain plug in them either.

I accidentally put a bunch in the wifes captive a while back, just drained out what I could and filled up with diesel. Been running fine for years!

1 and a half won't hurt it but if you really don't want it in there, I'm sure there will be a drain bolt on the fuel tank that you could open and flush the tank with more fresh diesel.

I had a second look and couldnt see a drain plug , maybe im looking in the wrong place? or maybe the bash plate has to come off first?

Factory plastic tank doesn't have a drain.

don't know if unleaded will separate like water/diesel so unless you drain the whole tank you wont be able to just drain the unleaded.... 1.5 litres won't do any harm if you fill up with diesel

I would add oil to dilute the volatility of the petrol, if it was me.

In pre-common rail diesels, you could happily run up to 30% unleaded without any harm. As unleaded mixes freely in diesel, 1.5l is around 2% of a full tank. So keep charm and go camping!

A colleague filled a triton with ULP, (about 85% of the tank capacity) and bought it to me 'cause it was running rough, loss of power, and smelt funny at the exhaust. We did about 40km like that, until I asked him when he last filled it etc. Once we emptied the tank and refilled with diesel it was fine.

Old post, but story time...my 1st 2016 hilux with 1000km on the clock got a full tank of unleaded courtesy of toyota dealer. It lasted about 20km, wouldn't rev past ~1700rpm, then died. It destroyed the fuel pump among other things.

Got my money back, started again with another new car.

They tried pretty hard to convince me it was good as new and there had been no damage (maaate your really lucky, she shut down just in time). Maybe true but I wasn't prepared to accept that. Took a few stern phone calls to get my money back but bought my 2nd new one elsewhere. It also screws with the factory warranty as Toyota HQ keeps a note of the mis-fuel on file and you'd be required to deal with the dealer direct for any related claims, which I wasn't keen to do.

After getting out of hospital one night from a crash in a motorbike race with concussion, my misses was driving home, we stopped and I was so out of it I completely filled the tank with unleaded... started missing unless on wide open throttle.. drove all the way home, 220km, the mechanic flushed it out (had to remove the tank to empty), changed the filter and it happily ran another 100,000km trouble free.... mechanic couldn’t believe it didn’t damage the pump and injectors.. that’s why I bought another hilux.. I couldn’t kill that thing.

Mate done it by accident once, every servo he went past he topped up the diesel for a few weeks to dilute it, I think he had a merc sprinter at the time.

F#$k me........ My wife filled up the Hilux with unleaded... The day before Christmas Eve!!

She had drove for a bit before coming home and parking the car. Then later tonight she went to drive the car and it started "missing" or "miss firing"? She pulled over and and turned it off.

Anyone offer any advice? Could I pump the fuel in the tank and pump Diesel in and hand pump it to the filter?

Would that be enough for now?

Any help would be appreciated.
