Has anyone noticed when you release the accelerator such as going downhill or slowing down, that the trip computer reads zero! I have a 5km downhill run to work everyday and no fuel is used for the 5km. But surely some fuel is being consumed? I have a scanguage and it also reads zero. So what happens to the engine when no fuel is supplied?

Does the arb frontier tank have baffles if not does anyone have any problems with fuel sloshing around?

Have the carb tank, don't know if it has baffles but can't notice any fuel moving around. I'd say they definitely would have baffles?

The ARB tanks don't have baffles; I asked in store at an open day so they opened it to check and there were no baffles inside. This post also talks about the baffle issue:

As far as I'm aware they don't have baffles but I could ask. As for sloshing, have done dozens now and no complaints.

I have the 129L ARB Frontier on my SR However on empty it fits 135L
I have the same issue however it does just stay on full for longer then becomes true once it gets to the factory 80L level.
Still managed to get Townsville to Gold Coast (1400km) on one tank so use that as your planning distance if you wish.

Got any photos of it Dan? Does it hang much lower?

This was one of the reasons I went for the Long Ranger 154 Ltr steel tanks.

Must say I was a sceptic, but I got one and I love it. I have been in some pretty remote areas and all sorts of terrain (Sands dunes through to rock scrambling) and haven't once questioned the decision to purchase. My work vehicle has a long ranger in it, although I haven't been quite as extreme in it, it has still done the job. Due to the weight saving and ability to take a hit I would go the ARB for any future purchases. Having said that, 154 litres of capacity would be great, but 145 isn't bad My work one only has 128 litres and its just not enough for the travel I do.

A tip. Some simple maths using the calculator on your smart phone will spit out the answer you seek in less than a minute. Get your co-pilot to do the calc, otherwise on those long trips do it when you stop for a quick stretch or toilet break. For city driving, do it before you take off or after you park up.

After you fill up your tank, be sure to reset one of the trip computers and the average fuel usage (L/100km).

Calcs:
Total fuel used = avg fuel usage * trip comp km / 100
Distance to empty = 100 * max capacity of fuel tank / avg fuel usage - trip comp km

These calcs are actually useful when re-fueling so you know how much fuel is required to fill the tank, and to date has been bang on for me which validates the accuracy of the figures from the dash (for my car at least).

Hope this is useful in lieu of having the factory gauge and dash displays.

Tom, I totally agree with your comments; however there is a hidden problem; data addiction. I used to rely on the simple data provided by the on board computer, but since getting the new tank I created a spreadsheet to monitor km per litre, litres per 100km, cost per 100km, distance travelled, theoretical distance to empty, theoretical maximum distance of the tank, plus all the stats of the fuel purchases. Although it has become an obsession, it’s been great for remote travelling as I am better able to approximate the need for fuel based on previous bitumen, gravel, sand and rock scrambling trips.

Get ScanGuage 2. I have the Frontier and it's great, once the ScanGuage has been told it's capacity & calibrates to the fuel flow metering over the first couple of fills it will give you back those simple readouts of litres remaining and distance to empty as you drive.

And it's more accurate as it completely overcomes the vehicle attitude & float level anomalies of the standard setup.
