At the end of the day Firmware will not rectify this issue. It only displays what it is being told from the sender unit. They really have to design a new level probe to give a more accurate level.

For anyone curious, I have been complaining every service about this, always getting "It's a know issue, with no fix available."

Latest service on Tuesday, I once again complained, but the service rep said they would follow it up.

Came back and said I was the second one this week to complain and that Toyota have a fix coming.

Told her I wasn't holding my breath, but she said Toyota has assure their service manager it will be implemented this year.

Couldn't tell me more than that, but it's a start.

My ute is the exact same. Most I have ever but in was 65-66L and that’s after I ignored the light for a while.

Doesn’t really worry me as I’m fitting the new tank hopefully next week.

So installed my Long ranger Tank the other day (painted black to make touch ups easier for the future.)
So here are my thoughts on the missing 15L.
At time of install my onboard computer told me I had 40-50km of fuel left.
Pulled the tank and the sender. Found the following.

So from the pics the sender Unit at empty end of the float it seems to me that it sits 16mm from the bottom of the tank.
That’s 16mm of fuel in bottom of tank after you hit refuel.

It’s the small end of the tank but when tank was vertical (to get the fuel out into the new one) where my hand is shows how much fuel remained inside this is a major portion of the tank.

Now on install Long ranger recommend their new float arm is bent Till it barely touches the ground on a flat level surface when installed. (Aka once installed it’s just barely touching bottom of tank) otherwise your missing bottom 16mm of tank capacity.

Must admit I really like the install super easy as I remember (been a year+ since I done this full time) final install with water tank looks good.
So basically I don’t know how they can be doing a software update when in my eyes it’s a hardware design flaw.
But I’m no engineer either.

I had my Hilux serviced on the 19/02/2018 40,000 kms

I raised a job that stated "Fuel light comes on with 20L of fuel still available"

the technicians response was as follows:

"this is normal, even 25 litres from empty may not turn off fuel light."
