Hey guys,

I'm not new to the page but this is my first post please excuse anything might be considered as an obvious mistake.

I previously owned a 2005 Hilux & loved it to bits (modded to its eyebrows), I have recently upgraded to the new 2016 Hilux which is an absolute beast of a car (well done Toyota) very happy with it.

I'm interested in any mods anyone has done to there's but has anyone installed a long range tank yet? I had a 145ltr in my old Hilux but ARB have a 173ltr option for the new Lux.
This gets me very excited but apparently it hangs pretty low which concerns me as I don't want to to get hung up while bush.

Does anyone have any pictures of one installed, I really want to see how low it hangs below the chassis.

I'm in the same boat mate, pick mine up at the end of the month. I have seen that Brown Davis have made a 150L tank for the new hiluxes too so they're probably worth a look if the arb one is too low.

Shame ya didn't ask last week as I fitted one just the other day and I could have taken some pics for ya but yes they do hang a bit. If I do another this week I'll grab some pics.

Does the 'Range' or 'Distance to zero' on the dashboard get recalibrated or does it still countdown from stock range, and would it confuse the ECU?
Just curious to know if the engine shuts down if you keep driving after distance to zero has reached zero.

I doubt it would shut down. It'll run until it sucks it dry.

It'll just count down. Obviously won't be accurate and no the ute won't shut down.

Mate had a steel long ranger fitted to his 2016 sr5 extra cab ill get some pics fitted when he is back at work on monday
Its 145 or 150 litre, cant remember exactly.
Arb siad they can fit the front section later on if he wants 170 odd litres

Whay do they add for the extra 20 ltrs ??

Theres a front section that bolts on, goes up to the transfer case.
pretty sure it can be fuel or kept seperate for water

You must decide on which tank you want before you buy

The larger capacity tanks have different fittings for the extra one up the front so you cant just add it later.

And the water tank is made from stainless steel so it is different again.

The 153lt looks the go, better ground clearance than the OEM tank, the front part actually looks like it is flush with the chassis, so best clearance and sh!t loads of fuel

Do any of you guys live in Vic with a plastic tank?
I have a distant relo down there that has been knocked back on rego for his Ranger because of the tank
Have you had your plastic tank install engineered?

Reading this article because it uses the original mounts they need to be engineered!
Even though they have upgraded the tank strap the strap still bolts to the same mount that was designed for a smaller 80lt tank, so I guess it makes sense.
The link on this page for VSI8 is quite clear.
"If a replacement tank of a 125% or larger capacity than the original uses the original mountings, their strength must be checked and shown to be adequate by a VASS Signatory"

Yah, but I think it is the same in all states as they have mostly adopted a national code

Anyone know if they are available yet?

And how do the 2 tanks work together? If there a pump involved? As id rather something that doesn't have another moving part to worry about..

Anyone fitted LRA 140 ltr?

I had a ARB frontier in my old 2008 (poly) and an LRA 120 sub (where the spare usually goes) it was awesome, very strong trust me you will not break it, I was supposed to have one fitted to my 2018 but they stuffed up ad put an LRA steel tank in by mistake, I can vouch they are both excellent, the ARB Frontier is a preference as they are lighter than the steel ones.
On a lot of long range tank upgrades the distance to empty gauge will not work but it does on mine.
