HI everyone, I am looking to buy a 2003 Hilux V6 petrol and lpg injector system, the lpg system was fitted in 2008. The car is at 320,000km now

Just want to know, any big issues with lpg system on V6 Petrol?

I drove a 5vz-fe prado for years it never gave any trouble I just serviced it, every 5vz-fe Ive seen on gas after 300k's has been trouble, did it get a timing belt at 300k's. Personally I wouldn't put a 5vz-fe on gas maybe I just don't like gas along the places that have gas are getting less, the problems in the few gas 5vz-fe I saw were flogged out tired gutless engines maybe from overheating at some time in their later life.

The current price of gas is comparable to unleaded so very little benefit there and I've heard plenty of stories about gas reducing the life of an engine. Valve guides and pistons seem to wear more with gas and petrol does tend to lubricate those parts while gas does not. With those kilometres I wouldn't buy it unless it's dirt cheap. Look for a good reasonable one and pay a little more! Better still, buy a later 4.0 v6 and for the extra $$$s it is a better long-term investment.
Edit: the probable cause of gas reducing engine life is more to do with unleaded petrol, gas was ok on leaded fuel because the lead provided lubricant to those parts whilst unleaded doesn't. There's no longer any savings to be had with gas over unleaded!
Before I get flamed... Yes I know gas is used without unleaded but occasionally petrol is used in a dual-fuel vehicle, dedicated gas-fuelled engines wear more than unleaded fuelled engines. Hope that clarifies the situation.

You are really an expert on this topic mate!

The seller showed me the engine, and said it is a seperate LPG injector system, so we can switch to and from gas/petrol during the test drIve easily. As its the first time I ever came across duel petrol and gas, I did not made the decision on the spot. Car condition was good with lots of accessory, like cannopy, roofrack, towbar, bullbar, two extra battery in the back, etc, priced at 11k.
Many thanks mate

You definitely want the power of the 4.0 litre don't know if you want the extra expense of maintaining the bloody thing.
As its inlet manifold is plastic it wont be taking lpg.
Some places I used to goto no longer have gas, a couple of blokes I know have put big fuel tanks back in and got rid of the gas as its no saving by the time you run everything hotter with the extra maintenance.
The ford 6 is about the only motor I like on gas .

Ok, not really an expert but thanks anyway. It seems like you have made up your mind so go for it! I would spend a bit of time comparing it with 4.0 v6 and be prepared to pay more. Your choice in the end.
I would compare it to this one, depending on if you really want to go off-road

I did not buy it, thanks for all your advice. I do not go off-road, and found out this car is too high for work.

Ok wise choice, but do look at that link to 4.0 v6 and think about it, especially if you don't go off-road ;)

That car looks great, but I want to buy automatic, not manual...
Looking at a VW Amarok now

Hi there,

I am wondering can i disconnect the battery of my 2013 & 2015 model hilux for about a month?

I heard if i do that, the whole electrical system of the vehicles will be haywired and i need to recalibrate. Is that true?

Probably a great myth! Disconnecting the battery will reset some of the settings to the base or factory settings and it's not likely to be different based on time disconnected. Disconnecting the battery should not make anything 'haywire' as you put it but some settings may/will change to the factory settings. You may need to reprogram your clock or radio settings but just as you would if the vehicle was new. Odometer settings for example, will not change!
May I ask why would you disconnect the battery for a month?
