Hey fellas and sheilas.

-Apologies if this is covered but I can not seem to find any solid information on this question-

I have a 2017 hilux dual cab (Bullbar,Winch and Long range tank) which I’d like to fit a 3” Dobinson MRR lift to.
Do I need supporting items? Such as UCA’s, Diff drop, Hangar bearing spacer or Extended brake lines?
The car will be 80% Road and 20% 4x4 use, I’m hearing a lot of mixed info on CV longevity.

Hey Max,

A diff drop is recommended to level out your cv shafts. The closer the shafts are to level, the less chance you'll have of breaking a cv joint. The cv joints are at their weakest when the are at the maximum angle such a during maximum steering or maximum suspension droop.

A change of uca is recommended if you can't achieve a wheel alignment within spec after you have done your lift.

You may need an aftermarket uca if you decide to run 33in tyres as on most vehicles we need to adjust the lca forward. This makes getting castor angles correct so a new uca can help this. Every vehicle is slightly different though. Don't spend $$$ unless you need to or are chasing bling. Most aftermarket uca are more trouble than they are worth. The stock upper ball joint is very strong and only $50 to get a new one.

You shouldn't need extended brake lines as the suspension droop isn't that much more than the factory setup on the front. On the rear that is another matter and a extended brake line is recommended.

I haven't heard of a bearing spacer. It does sound a little like snake oil.

Thanks mate I appreciate your input. I have purchased the Dobinsons MRR Premium 3” Lift and a Diff drop kit. Very excited now to see how it goes, I’ll hold off on the arms until a wheel alignment has been done.

Lol...

It refers to spacing down the centre bearing on the tail shaft. Preeeeeeeeeetty common. Really common actually. Well known mod on lifted hiluxes.

Supposedly reduces vibration etc when suspension is lifted.

We'll mine is lifted and I don't have so supposedly you don't really need one, if you are going to be like that.

Plenty of others like mine out there too so it's preeeeetty common not to run them as well
