Improving ride quality Hilux 4x4 without lifting?

Hi- have tried searching but no answers regarding making the ride a bit softer on a 2017 hilux 4x4. We use ours for camping with the kids and general car duties so its never going to be loaded with 1 tonne of bricks, the ride gets tiring when driving 3-4 hours on the highway.
Have asked a couple suspension places as figured they would know their stuff, got 2 totally different answers though.

First was to remove a leaf from the rear and replace the shocks with something like the Koni's.

Second was to reset the standard Toyota leaf springs & set down the helper leaf. This guy said that you shouldn't remove one of the leafs from the rear.

Second option was a lot cheaper unsurprisingly.

Any real world experiences doing this?

Can't lift as old house and won't get in the car port if its any higher.

Thanks in advance!

Put some weight in the tub. Keep your tank filled.

Option 2, plus better better shocks when you can afford them. Option 2 may still give you an increase in ride height, so best to measure carefully and discuss with whoever does the work before you get it done.

I am a big Koni fan, but be aware that Konis for for some Toyotas are set way too hard on compression.

A phone call to The Ultimate Suspension would be time well spent.

Set down the helper leaf is a means of modifying the leaves in the rear spring ‘leaf pack’ to provide a softer ride. Basically changes how quickly through the suspension travel the stiffer leaves engage
