Rough ride SR5

Thanks guys for your replies. I towed the kart trailer to the gold coast on wkend and made the girls pack as much stuff as they wanted, and apart from a section of road out of Harlin the ride wasn't to bad, but once got back to south Burnett yep ride rough as guts. Am thinking loading the back somehow with 200-300 kgs see if helps.

had the same issue with my lux. replaced my shocks and struts with bilstein 5100 and tire pressure set at 29psi and it made a huge difference...

Gavarni wrote:Hey guys, got my self new 2016 dual cab SR5, very happy with the features, well apart from the navigation but that's another story, my biggest gripe is the harsh ride, now I know it's a ute and is meant to be firm, so it can handle the 900kg payload but man my thing is beyond rough, it has no give on any bumps, now I live west of Gympie on country roads and even with kart trailer being towed, est 150kg on ball the vehical is even worse. Every bump you feel, serious there is very little give in the suspension, even jumping on the back or side it barely moves, just tyre roll is more the give in the car. It handles great around corners but I don't drive that fast to warrant cornering stability. It had its first service were I mention a vibration above 105km on very smooth city roads but tech came back could not find any issues and all appeared as it should suspension wise. So my question is how do I soften the suspension? I have look and all I can find is lift kits which the guys say will firm the ride, do I need to change the rear leafs or shocks to soften the ride? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Spoken with couple leaf guys and nothing out there that is softer and no one will make a set to soften the ride. So trying to avoid putting 500kg in back permantly, which even that am concern won't fix issue, so open to ideas.

Thanks

Check the tyre pressure ,,it should be 28 psi without load and up to 34 with load..

I have been test driving the diesel automatic SR5 and I really like everything about the car except the harsh ride. It seems to resonate when it hits a bump and shudder through the whole car. I have had all sorts of Toyota 4x4 s from Hilux to land cruisers and have never experienced a ride this bad. I am walking away from the car unless I can find an answer that makes it bearable. I will mostly drive the car unladen albeit I want the flexibility of the tray for all sorts of part time loads. I don't mind sacrificing a bit of the load carrying capacity for a better ride. Can anyone suggest suspension experts in Adelaide I can talk to?
I checked the tyre pressure and it was at 37 PSI so I dropped it to 30 with a small improvement. I loaded the back with a couple of hundred kilos with very little difference.

Thanks for the feedback.

IYO Is it more about improving the quality of the shocks? I am not complaining about the bump when you run over a pot hole it's more about the ringing or resonating effect after you hit a bump. It almost feels like there is no shock absorber or an under performing shock..

Is there a premium end product that works better or is it all pretty much of a muchness?

Thanks

Turn it into a tourer with heaps of weight and you won't have any problems. My ride is soft as. Without canopy and gear I'm not sure of a solution...

STOP
Its a brand new vehicle with brand new springs
Wait 5000km after the springs have flexed and broken in
New suspension will be just as hard unless a lower spring rate is used in which case you wont have the same load carrying capacity

I am not really complaining about the stiffness of the suspension. It is a four wheel drive ute after all! It's more the resonating of the springs or chassis after you hit the bump. The Hilux drives really well for what it is, it sits on the road beautifully, there is just an underlying harshness to it all, after you feel the bump there is a vibration resonating through the vehicle.
I find this annoying. For a short drive you don't even notice it, but after 45 minutes behind the wheel it starts to wear on you then after another 45 minutes it is a real p*^^ off. I find it a fatiguing car after driving it for a while due to this harshness. As I spend an hour and a half a day in it commuting I may be a bit harsher critique than most.
If I drive the work 70 series ute around I find this a nicer ride, although not quite as nimble and modern a car.
Just looking to see if anyone else feels the same and if they found a solution?

Thanks Toyzx, the bp51's look like a nice bit of kit. Any idea on a rough cost to put these each corner?
If I am more of a dirt road cruiser and less of a serious four wheeler should I consider the suspension lift to fix this harsh ride?
Does the suspension lift give you longer travel and more compliance with better suspension articulation or is it just plain ground clearance?

Hey guys, yeah road from Wondai to Murgon is horrible, road out to Biloela even worse. Spoke to a guy at the sunny coast, Allset Springs. He thinks can help so will see what he can do. Will keep you all posted.

Mine is the same fairly firm but what worries me is the tiny distance between the bump stop and chassis. With some weight in the back and the camper on the ride is a little better but over cattle grids etc it bottoms out. My previous Ranger was the same so I assume they are built for it but surely pounding the bump stop into the chassis regularity can't be good?

SR5 with 18's quote 29 psi all round, 35 in the rear with a load.

Tyre pressure makes a big difference, I dropped mine to 32.

I test drove the new Lux yesterday and bloody hell its a harsh ride. My N70 when I bought it brand new in 2014 was fairly similar but not as bad in my opinion. I have been emailing a few suspension companies to ask about their opinion and if something can be done, they've come back saying that even after a suspension upgrade, they still ride fairly rough.

Almost bought it yesterday, just need confirmation that there is a solution before I purchase it. Hate to say it but I also test drove a brand new Wildtrak as well as the Hilux and wow, so much more comfortable, you'll forget that its leaf sprung.

Rangers are comfy but do like to give the bump stop a work out even when lightly loaded

Any update for an outcome on this?

Ive heard the Fortuner is not much better and also has a rough ride, so maybe the rear Leaf springs are not the whole problem...
