Old man emu, not happy

Old man emu, not happy

Postby tbo100 on Mon, 13 Jun 2016 3:42 +0000

I put the ome nitros and am very disappointed. Only gave me a 30mm lift on the front and the ride is only slightly better than what it was. Should have gone with tough dog
Anyone else have the same issues

Ome never lift very far, but comfort wise, my nitro charger shocks are better than my ultimate shocks were and have now outlasted them as well.

9 out of 10 people who are unhappy with any brand of suspension because they have been sold the incorrect springs and set up for what they carry and use their rig for. End of the day if your that unhappy with the ride and the springs have sagged for no reason (meaning you haven't added any weight) then you have every right to complain amd have it checked out.

That 30mm in the front is all you will get out of most 2 inch suspension kits on the market that run a fixed spring base on the strut.
You want more than that, search for "longer travel front struts" & stay away from OME.

Ive said this too many times on here.......... ARB are masters at Marketing.

I asked for a 2inch lift kit and they told me they only do 40mm. I was happy with that, but not 30mm. As for the ride they assured me it'll make a huge difference.

It can be the spring choice like torsion said. I've got ome, there was an 884 and an 885 Spring? (Sure they were the numbers) initially they ordered the 884, and after some research I found this Info and went back in and they changed the order. Went over 40mm in the front and is more than comfortable ride, however after 3yrs and only about 45k one side sagged back to 35mm. ARB sorted it out for me even though it was past the time frame in warranty (stuff all k's)

Before my car went there it was 890mm from ground to bottom of the guard. Now after 450kms it 920mm

I got EFS with their XTR struts all round. LOVE THEM. Under $2000 installed in Ferntree Gully.

Couldn't be happier

So after taking my Hilux off road on some fire trails I can tell you that ok man emu/nitros are just as shit off road as it is on the road. My friends were arguing about who was getting in my car as the ride was that bad.
I think I'm going to cut my loses and spend the money again and change the suspension. The only help ARB gave me was to buy a set of BP51 rear shocks at $1200 and it might fix the problem. Told them I want a refund and they've pretty much said no.

I had ARB lift my previous lux (SR5 2010), the 42mm was fine ,up-graded rear springs thus to keep the payload ,invested in some good rubber ----- brilliant & not a complaint . This time around (2014 SR5) we went Iron-man --42 mm ,heavy duty springs , good rubber & the Ute floats & sways a wee bit at speed when empty ,next time around I'll go back to ARB . Cheers JMc

The problem with the Hiluxs factory suspension is that when its unloaded it's very stiff. When you walk into an ARB dealer and they tell you that their suspension will sort out the problem and it'll be chalk and cheese in terms of comfort. You get upset when you've just wasted $2500
