Aftermarket Suspension for 2016 Hilux

Well after some heavy back and forward with ARB, at a small cost in change over i am have the OME Nitrochargers replaced with OME BP-51s and the rear lead to 300kg rated.

I know what most will say about it, but they are at the top of my list because i wanted a fully adjustable setup - ie, bypass, remote res, adj height, rebound, damp etc.
The new Dobo MRR coilover came in second as they have longer open strut length, are remote res and adjustable rebound.
3rd was Profender/Superior remote res coilover.

Sorry, if I missed it but did you have an issue with the original OME setup ? How do you find the BP51 in comparison, if you have had a chance to test ?

Yes i did, very very long story about issues/concerns which i won't go into details here. In saying that, the nitrocharges are pretty good imo. There is no adjustment to them however, what you see is what you get with them, so you need to select the right coil for your application and needs. They are valved well and a nice and soft ride without any wallow or riding like a boat.

I'm in tho process of negotiation but hopefully it will happen in the next few weeks to change over to the BP-51s.

I installed OME yesterday in my truck and I'm not satisfied with the lift. I see photos of other pickups and they look taller than mine, with the same amount of lift.

I measured the height of the truck with a meter meter and before mounting the suspension 265/60/18 tires it was 860mm high from the ground to the fender. After mounting the OME suspension I placed 275/65/18 and got 910mm from the floor to the fender, measured in the same place.


But looking does not look that whole, I'm bothered by it. When I take a photo or see the truck it seems to be original.

So you measured just (6.5mm of extra tyre height gained) less than a 50mm lift, which if what the OME is advertised as but you think it doesn't look high enough ? Lift isn't everything mate, for most applications the best performance will be from fitting quality shocks to achieve the minimum lift you can to fit the biggest tyres you intend to run.

Not all suspension is created equal...

^^^ very good comment stated above. Coil rate, valving, travel, rebound rate needs to be considered when going offroad and fiding a solution suited to your application.
OME only state a 40mm lift and their acceptable settle rate is about ~35mm which gets checked at the 500km checkup.

Tossing up between the outback armour and dobinsons 50mm lift with 300kg plus leaves. Have anyone fitted the dobinsons kit to the 2016 model? The dobinsons kit is 250 more.

Anyone tried the Fulcrum house brand (formula) leaf springs ? I'm tossing up between these and the slightly more expensive King springs. Looking for a leaf to deal with light load ok but not flunk out with 300-400kg on trips so thinking a 150-200kg load spring with 40-45mm lift.

Should have been top of fender to bottom of rim.

I'm looking for an intermediate suspension kit to handle a bit of load and camper when going away but will be mostly driven unladen. I've used EFS , OME and Dobinson on previous vehicles and all have been good although the OME were pretty harsh on my old 83 hilux.

I was talking to a retailer that sells multiple brands about the Ironman Foam cell pro setup and they seem quite good and he runs them in his trucks, with all products they have mixed reviews but this may be based on the baseline ironman stuff. Its funny though some forums rave about them and others bag them!

I'm tossing up between this and the EFS comfort kit with elite shocks which I believe are a gas monotube shock? and this ironman pro kit which i understand the springs are supplied by kings and have a foam cell twin tube design?

Both kits are around the same price, has anyone had the ironman pro kit fitted for a little while yet? They definitely look heavy duty.

I have a 2016 duel cab with an alloy tray fitted. I need to lift the back end because of what I'm carrying and was told to get +350 kg springs.
The boss (work boss) said why don't we get a 2" lift kit at the same time....and i said ok.
I don't do off road, just a bit of beach work and towing a boat.
So my question is.....what should i get. 95% of my time is spent driving on the black stuff. In just over 12 months ive done 39000 km. I don't want to waste his money going on a kit that is over kill for what i need.
Suggestions please, as my head is still spinning.

My two cents! Just to confuse you more! It all depends on if what you are carrying is a constant load(or permananently fitted load like toolboxes, canopies etc) or variable load (like picking stuff up and dropping it off)
Beach Driving generally does not require lifts. I've done Fraser, North Straddie pulling a 1200kg Camper no issue, no lift.
With a tray, you already 'have' a lift over the styleside models, which is why they tend to lift them in the first place. Particularly driving a style side over rock steps which sounds like something you do not do.
Maybe an option for you to consider is airbags? Airbags give you the flexibility when towing, carrying heavy loads, or no load at all. They inflate your rear end when loaded.
Airbags can also get you a good on board air kit which helps with tyre inflation, air mattress inflation and other things.
You can increase your tyre diameter slightly as well.
Have a look at someone like Boss Air Suspension. Just another option to a lift kit.
Otherwise if your work boss is paying, get it all!!!

I was talking to a mate at Toyota and he said he had been getting a few through the door with busted CV joints lately after a lift.
Has anyone that has had a lift around 2" for 10,000+klms had any issues with boots or cv joints?

Done plenty now and heaps of them would have done well over thise ks now. Biggest problem is guys get a lift and bigger tyres and think they can now tackle harder tracks. 9 out 10 of cv breakages are from diver error, too much right boot at the wrong time!

I have a new Hilux which I bought mainly to tow a van weighing 2320kg and a ball weight of 270kg and when I put the van on it lowers the vehicle about 70mm it is supposed to carry a ball weight of 320kgs and tow 3200kgs. This is false advertising . What should I do Air Bags or reset springs with an extra leaf or Sue Toyota

He said the cv problems were more due to the boots wearing out pre maturely and getting dirt and water in the joint.

Does anyone know what happened to the Icon kit? I ordered what I thought would fit the 2017 but the swaybar relocation plate has the wrong bolt spacing and the rear dampers are based on the old stud type from the previous generation and when I contacted them they said I was the first to try to fit the kit to the 2017 and that they hadn't even attempted to fit it.

They have asked me to return it for a refund (very good customer service it has to be said). It looks like they are going to update their website to clarify their current kit only fits 05-15.

I noticed back in july 2016 Daz was testing stages 1-5 for them. Would like to fit the proper version as the parts were of a very high quality.

Where did you buy the kit from dan@biali ? Was it advertised as compatible with Gen 8 / N80 / revo ?
