GVM suspension upgrade

GVM suspension upgrade

Postby Jamie J on Thu, 07 Apr 2016 6:14 +0000

I've ordered a SR5 extra cab and been waiting on GVM kits. Lovells have told me it will be late June and expect it to be 3500kg. Hope to take delivery next week so will have to wait a while to be able to get suspension upgrade.

Hey Jamie, did you end up getting this installed? What was the end GVM upgrade amount and any indication on $$? Cheers

As an update, I spoke to the local Lovell's dealer in SA and was quoted +/- $6k for 3.5t. Was a lot more than expected but the changes also seemed fairly extensive (front and rear) - for what it's worth. Might also be because it's a new system.

Anyone got any tips on similar or better suppliers and perhaps something a bit cheaper?

I just fitted the durashock gvm upgrade to mine.

Nothing but good things to say about it so far, its a 3.3t upgrade and come with a new compliance plate not just a mod plate so technically should be legal everywhere in the country. Rides nice and comfortable for what it is.

The front is about a half inch lower than my 2" lift that was on it but that can be adjusted as it comes with steel rings that can be put under the spring seat to raise it up.
Works out to probably 2.5" lift in the front if all the rings are used but this will put a lot of pre-load on the springs so I left one of the big ones out.

I'm the rear I gained about 20mm but that will come down when fully loaded.

Fulcrum is where I got mine fitted, cost 3850 for everything.

Oh the only this is that it doesn't come with bushes shackles pins strut tops so probably another 300 if yours are no good and need to be replaced

Hope this helps.

Check Pedders, that's who did mine, the cost was reasonable (less than $4k) and I have been very happy with the result. The web says that the Lovell's upgrade boosts the front axle load (Not sure if this is still an issue for the new model), but if it does this it would be well worth the money as you could safely have a bull bar, winch, underbody protection and dual batteries without an issue.

I think on the durshock one your front axle increases but you have to have a tyre over a certain rating. I'll check in the morning.

The new tyre decal also gives axle weights

Front 1500kg
Rear 1800kg.

I had the Lovells fitted new before rego, 3500kg but with tyre upgrade from standard. Standard tyre on SR was only 3300kg.
About $5300 from memory done early September.

I'm selling my complete lovells 3.5t gvm package for $2000. Just need to arrange a post registration mod plate and it shouldn't be too hard given the data available on the lovells kit. It's only 2.5 months old and has done 5k km. I'm in brissy but can ship. My was done pre registration.

So is the GVM upgrade certificate conditional on you keeping the same suspension etc. as was use for the compliance ?

Yes unfortunately, it means if something wears out or you break something it technically needs to be replaced with the same part to remain compliant.

But in saying that how would they know unless you get say new shocks with a big bilstein down the side etc.

The mod plate is conditional to the lovells package but as long as the component replaced is equivalent or better I reckon you'd be right. I have an engineer who will replace it as long as parts are equivalent or better. The caloffroad bilstein kit can be gvm rated. , I don't know to what weight yet though. Maybe not 3500kg but even a bit less will be acceptable for me.
