Need something to get you rolling?

265/70/18 standard alloys

Postby fishcrazyrob on Sun, 17 Jan 2021 11:00 +0000

Hi,

Looking to run 265/70/18 or 275/65/18 on standard Toyota alloys. Likely BFG KO2s.

I have a bull bar, SuperPro upper control arms and a 50mm lift.

Lots of threads on here, but can’t find exact answer. From what I can tell:

- need to adjust caster forward
- both tyres likely to rub on front mud flap

Questions:

- which of these tyres will cause me the least issues in terms of scrub?
- will I definitely need a body mount chop with either tyre?
- am I likely to have any scrub on sway bar with either tyre?

Thanks!

265/70/18 won’t be legal, they are more than 50mm taller than your original 265/60/18.

275/65/18 are about 40mm taller and will be legal if they fit.

Either will diminish your braking capacity though.

X2

yes moving your LCA forward will help with the scrubbing. Is the UCA adjustable? You castor will be out which will make the car vague at speed and respond poorly the potholes and road surface imperfections. I live with it but I wouldn't recommend it.
I might be wrong.

Thanks for that.

I’ll stick with the 275/65/18 then. Front brakes are being upgraded to DBA slotted rotors and HD pads.

SuperPro upper control arms are adjustable and presumably will help?

Likely to have any issues with scrub on sway bar?

It is the rotor diameter you really need to increase for the brakes to keep up with the tyre diameter. Has anyone tried 120 or 150 ‘cruiser rotors and calipers on a 2016 on Hilux? The rotors look to be the same diameter as the 2012-2015 Hilux.

Sway bar rub is nothing to worry about. its only at low speed when you rub and I never hear it - i only notice when I see the dirt rubbed off it.
