Largest tyre on stock rims with a 45mm lift?

Hi guys,

I have used the search function but couldn't find the answer I am looking for...

There's a thread on fitting larger tyres with stock suspension (265/65/r18) but I wanted to see what's the largest tyre I can fit on the stock SR5 18 inch rims when the car has a 45mm (1.77inch) lift?

Will a 265/70/r18 fit?

Can I go with a wider tyre too like a 285/70/r18?

Hi mate. It's not fitted yet, but I'm going all TJM and getting the list below fitted.

I'll let you know how it rides once it's done.

TJM Bullbar
Winch
Brush Bars
Side Steps
Snorkel
45mm Lift
CB Radio
LED Light Bar

I'm also about to put a 2" Dobinsons lift on my 2016 SR5 and would like to know what the largest size is that I could fit on the stock r18 rims.

Am hoping to put 275/70/r18 - BFG AT K02's on...

can you even get the BFG's in that size? its not listed on their site?

but it would be great to know what is required to run a 275/70r18 tyre... not keen on having to cut into my hilux though.

I think its the same diameter as the Hulix Max's Punisher 2.0

Hi ih8ubarney,
I found the 275/70/r18 - BFG AT K02's for sale on the below web sites when I did a Google search.
but you are correct, this size is not mentioned on the BFG site..

https://www.walmart.com/ip/BF-Goodrich- ... R/44896631
https://tiresize.com/tires/BFGoodrich/A ... -70R18.htm

I'll give BFG a call to confirm when I get a chance??

Hi Nic,
what i meant was i don't think its a size that is sold to the Australian market, where are a bunch of other manufacturers that sell A/T tyres that size here, but the BFG isnt one of them.

it is more than likely you can get it in the states, but not sure if i'd like having to wait for a spare to get shipped over!!

Good call Barney.
I will keep looking for the perfect solution..
I currently have the 265/60/r18 AT BFG KO2's on and am VERY happy with them but will definitely be looking for an upgrade of boots to go on the existing 18" rims once I get my 50mm lift. May even have to settle for another brand but we shall see!

I have heard so many differing opinions as to what tyre sizes will and won't fit from tyres shops etc that I am going to play it safe for now and have booked in to get some 265/65/18 BFG KO2's fitted tomorrow.

Hi Nic,
I have the same set up with no lift as of yet. I do get some rubbing on max lock... do you?

I went to bob Jane a while ago to pick their brains about what would fit, I just found their card with a quote on it.... 275/65 r18 bfg ko2 $485
Yet there are no 275 wide 18" tyres listed on the bfg Australian web site or bob janes...

With a 2" or less lift I think, (with my limited knowledge) a 275/70 r18 may be too big, but if the 275/65 r18 exists it could a good fit?

I ended up playing it safe and getting 265/65's fitted as there are so many different opinions on what will or won't fit.

Even they scrape a little on full lock, but my lift will fix that when it's fitted next week.

It surprises me that Toyota left so little room for bigger tyres!

Nice choice Gatti, can I ask, how do you find the road noise, compared to the regular cutters? I put AT3's on my N70 and found they weren't too bad, but the KO2 look a lot more aggressive. Thinking of getting these out keen to hear your thoughts.

The KO2s are aggressive in appearance on the side biters only. A fairly AT style tread with little road noise in the first half of their life.

They're fine. You can't really hear them

I was able to mount 275 / 70R18 on the original wheels, with 45mm lift. I needed to change only the upper control arms because the tires scraped too much. Now do not scratch any more.

Nice!

What are they like on the tracks when the front suspension is compressed? Do they scrub then?

Hey mate,

Curious to hear how the rubbing is after the lift? What lift did you end up going with? Pretty much got the exact same ute (colour and all) and am trying to see if it'll rub at all once all said and done with the 265/65R18.

Just put a 2inch dobinson in my 2016 sr. Would like to fit the same tyre but on the standard sr rims cant find an answer. 275×65 should be fine though the only problem i see is the upper control arm.
