Hi Guys,

I have just bought a new 2016 Hilux SR Dual Cab 2.8TD. I don't get it for two weeks but i am trying to organise the lift kit, wheels and tyres. I am just going a 2in suspension lift and have bought the wheels in below link. I was hoping to fit Micky T Baja Radial ATZ P3 in a 285/70/17. Does anyone have any input as to weather i would have a problem fitting this size tyre?

What offset wheel did you buy, I can only see 0 offset, this will play the biggest part in fitting bigger tyres,

Another thing to consider, your going to find that as you go more negotiate, the leverage on your suspenshion components changes massively,
A positive offset wheel wants to bent the spindles angleing down, 0 will push just of square going up, negotiable is angled up,
And the more negative, the wider the turning circle will be and harder to turn (well on the components anyway)
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

hey guys a newbie to this, so take it easy on me! just wanting to know if anyone has done or knows about putting 285/75R16 with a 2'' lift on the new 2016 hilux? will i have to do any more of a lift or less of the tyres or maybe something else?
and yes 16s fit, dynamic make a set :)

Have a look through the forum to see who's put in 31" tyres.

Yours are a bit wide so you may need to play with rim offset if you don't lift but there are a heap of threads that will tell you what you need to know.

Hey guys
You won't fit 33's on the hilux unless you have at least 2-3inch lift and a bullbar
I'm currently running 32's 265/70/17 0offset with out lift and without bullbar scrubs just a little on hard turning even with the front mid flap removed
Liftkit gets fitted end of this week so that won't be a issue anymore

Suspension "lift" does NOT determine if a 33" tyre will fit or not. All it does is help to make that tyre fit at a "static" height.

with or without a lift, your suspension will compress the same. The lower bump stop is the determine factor to how much your suspension will compress. Pointless making a tyre fit when your parked in your driveway, and as soon as your suspension compresses, you carve into your fender and/or destroy your tyre.

Two things are pivotal to tyre fitment....

1. Wheel size and offset for the tyre size your wanting to run
2. A "proper" wheel alignment, utilising replacement upper control arms in order to gain more castor than the factory upper arms allow which helps move the hub position that little bit further forward.

Factory specifications for a wheel alignment are just that - factory for a standard hilux. that wont work for a modified one. Which is why you need to take it to someone who knows what they are doing in this regard.

as "fully hektik" -25 offset "dish" looks on a wheel, it will take a huge amount of work to get it to work properly.

Wider offset/track equals bigger scrub radius......typically for a 285 33" equivalent tyre, you should run a P10 offset, I wouoldnt reccomend more than a P0. coupled with replacement upper control arms and a decent alignment.

done properly, you will keep that size tyre off your bodymount on full compression with wheels turned slightly.

remember, you need clearance if using it offroad with suspension compression and full steering arc, condition you wont encounter in the shopping centre carparks.

Hi all, i am new to the forum so i thought i'd jump right in an add my experience :geek:

I have a 2016 dual cab sr5 running 265/70/17 General Grabber srl's on a 17x8.5 +15 (from memory) Method Alloy Wheels with 2" old man emu lift kit and am having scrubbing issues even with the mudflap removed. Also fitted is a ARB summit sarah bullbar and 9000lb winch.
Its only on a very slight angle, like 5° with some compression that causes the tyre to scrub the inside front guard/body where the mudflap mounts. I was originally going to buy 285's but definately glad i didn't. With 2" lift, i doubt a 285 would even fit inside the guard/wheel well... :|

Further to this, as Hilux Max post suggested, i am doing some changes to the caster to add some extra mm of clearance. Fingers crossed.

So after a little exercise with a tape measure, my 265/70/17 measure about 817mm in diameter which would explain why they have difficulty fitting in the guard with a lower offset wheel and only 40mm of lift :lol: :lol:

~Update info~

Had another wheel alignment done to the front of my hilux and it now how a bit more than 2° of castor to the front which allows my, almost 33's, Generals to fit and suspension to compress with no scrubbing issues. Mudflaps are still off though, i wasn't that lucky.

After doing a little research late last night, it seems though, anything above 40mm of lift, i would have to bring the castor back under 2° to allow correct travel on the control arms otherwise itd cause a lot of problems. can anyone confirm this?
I would like to bring the front up slightly so that it sits level 8-)

Max, all good info...

So, IVe fitted Matrix Suspension including diff drop and UCAs... Had it aligned with the UCA at full castor befor alignment and it drives beautifully at about 3" lift in the front with original wheels and tyres.

Tried on the 285/75 - 16s with He,p 16x8s that currently have 0 offset...

It scrubs with the mud flaps on. Called the alignment guy (who knows what he is doing) and he tells me that moving the wheel any further forward would negatively affect either castor or camber... both of which I want to be within limits at static height.

So... I'd like to find a way to run the 33s with It removing the mud flaps and gouging like the N70...

I can get the Helos machined with upto a 12mm positive offset... which is feasible as the wheel/tyre combo has more than 40mm to play between it and the upright.

Else, I drop to 32" tyres...

Drop the lift back down a little and then get another alignment.

The more lift you dial in, the less available castor there is for adjustment.

Thats why Ive decided to keep my lift to just on 2" and work on the alignment and trimming side of things to make 33.5x12x17's work.

Got a few tricks up my sleeve I will also be investigating in the new year to allow me to run even bigger tyres later with the same lift.

Has anyone put 275/70R18 in the new hilux? What did he have to do? I have lift OME in mine and wanted to put these measures.

Sure do... I fitted my 16x8 with 285/75-16 but even with 54 UCAs, they scrub...

Ok, so I thinking 18x9 with +1 fuel wheels... 285/60-18 Cooper LTZ... any comments on that setup?
