With regards to the front wheels: Did you wind the castors forward as much as possible before fitting the bigger tyres or not? Reading some of the posts here: it recommended to wind the castors forward as much as possible to gain as much clearance as possible to avoid the rubbing... I read people have installed even larger 275/70 R18s & they seem to say the rub us minimal and no noise reported....
If you don`t mind, could you please add a couple of close up photos of the fix?

Thanks
Sam

As it has put is 275/65R18, that equals 32".. 275/70R18 already needs lift and wheels with different offset.

So 275/65 R18 rubs a little...but 275/70 R18 definitely needs a lift correct?
Thanks,

So, new shoes are on. It'll be a little while til I get a chance to take them off-road, but didn't seem to get any scrubbing on the bitumen.
Stock size 265/60R18 is equal to 30.5inch, these are 265/65R18, equal to 31.6inch, so only slightly larger.
Am keen to get the bar work done and get some dirt on them!

looking Great on those wheels! can`t wait to do the same!

Did you wind the castors forward at all or just left them where they were?
When you get a chance please post a photo of the complete truck with these tyres on....
Thanks,
Sam

Yeah haven't touched the castors. Will prob throw a 2 inch lift once the bar is on- I'd say it'll sag pretty well with a bit of weight in the front. I'll get some pics soon..

Has anyone gone down the path of 275/65/r17 on the stock SR steels, pretty keen to go bigger without spending the money on suspension straight away

I've been flicking through the forum and can't seem to find a definitive answer around tyre sizes on the N80.

I'm planning to pick up an SR5 soon and want to fit some BF Goodrich All-Terrains to the standard alloys. Keen to know what the largest size is that I can legally run on the car with no scraping and no modifications required.

Are the standard 265/60/18s as big as I can go? Has anyone fit anything larger than this with absolutely no mods to the car?

Thanks in advance!

Sharing my experience:

Just installed FJCruiser Wheels/BFGoodrich T/A KO2 265/70-17 Tyres on a 2016 Hilux Revo (Thailand Domestic Market) with stock suspension. No Mudguards and it RUBS on the Fender Guard where the mudguard would be.
Here are the specs:

STOCK:
17x7.5" (30 offset) Enkei Toyota Wheels
265/65-17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T D693III

REPLACEMENTS:
17x7.5" (15 offset) Toyota Wheels (Taken off a USDM FJCruiser)
265/70-17 BFGoodrich T/A KO2 Load E (10 Ply)

Here's a pic after it was mounted and balanced:

Here are pictures of the wheels/tyres on the truck:

I turned the steering wheel and the rubbing shows on the fender guard:

Diameter of tyres went from 30.6" to 31.6" and rubs with the extra 15 offset. Borrowing a heat gun this week to modify the fender guards.

trdchris,
I'm installing 265/65 R18 which I think it works out the same as what you installed. Also have Toyota supplied fender protector on the wheel arches, with that in mind I guess I will have to modify the fenders as you described. Could you please post a couple of photos of exactly what I need to do?
Thanks,
Sam

Sam355,

My right-hand tyre seems to rub more than the left.(At full lock) I haven't modified the alignment, I'm just hoping that in time the rubber blocks will wear enough that it clears the fender "knurl."

I will be posting 2 pictures below. The first one with the steering wheel and tyres straight and the distance between the tyres and the fender. The distance is about 42mm or 1-5/8". The second picture with the steering turned to the point of contact on the right hand side.

Will consider a lift kit, but the logistics to ship from Australia to Jamaica is proving quite challenging.

Thank you trdchris,
The amount of rub doesn`t look bad at all! As you mentioned you should be fine while the tyres are worn a little on that specific location...
Cheers,
Sam

Has anyone put 275/70R18 in the new hilux? What did he have to do? I have lift OME in mine and wanted to put these measures.

Tyre size again.

Hey all. This is take 2..... it's been a while since I posted.
I have ordered a 2016 SR dual cab and I'm getting the dealer to upgrade the rubber and rims. I don't want any bigger tyres, just the profile perhaps. Stock being 265/65/17 , an I better of to go to a /70 or /75? I'd like a tiny more clearance but not sure if this will affect road handling much?
I upgraded my 06 hilux tyres and rims a couple of years ago to 245/75/16 and it became a bit floaty on the road.
Is there a 'common' size that is being used as far as the profile goes?
Hope this makes sense?
Cheers Scott.

A lot of guys seem to be running 265/70/17. They fit well without rubbing on anything, are a common and easy to get size (if you have to replace one at a remote town) and give you slightly more ground clearance than standard. I like em but now I've got my 2" lift I might try 285/65/17 next time because I'm shallow and like the look of tyres that fill out the guards a bit better. They are virtually the same (slightly smaller) rolling diameter as the 265/70/17.

Cheers Dan, that's what I was wondering about the more common, easier to source size. Did you notice any difference in handling/ road holding with an increase in profile size?
