Quick update. Car performed beautifully offroad on Sunday, but the fronts are hitting the body mount when under heavier compression. I only found out yesterday when I noticed that the car sliced into a couple of lugs on the tyre. So now im looking for a decent place around Sydney to do a body chop, one that wont do a bodgey job.

Update to help those to come - ended up getting the bfg ko2 265/65 r18 with no lift and took it on a few tracks and negotiated some gutters Sunday with no rubbing. Interestingly v occ at hard full lock and compression at city speeds have had a tiny rub on the mud flap.

Now looking at a second spare rim and tyre for the Holland track and wondering what offset I can get by with a 265/70 r17 second spare. My rims are +30. Will I run into issues if I deviate from this?

Cheers

Tyres

Postby NebulaLux5 on Wed, 08 Nov 2017 3:36 +0000

G'day all,

I'm getting a 2" lift soon and was wondering what the biggest tyres I could get before they start rubbing against anything. Seen people with 33". Seen people with 24". Seen people with 20". Got mates at work who say they'll fit 33" no issues. So what's the biggest size I could go before I start having issues?

Cheers lads

I'm looking at running these on my 2017 dual cab, no lift and not planning on doing one. Will be on for 4wd trips only and will use the stock 18's and HT for everyday use.

ive got 2inch OME lift with 275/65/R18 (32.1"), +18 offset 18x9inch wheels, they scrub on bumps.. cant see how a 33 would fit to be honest.

About to pick up a new sr dual cab. Looking at putting on a set of toyo a/t ii. Has any one put on 265/70/17 on with the standard sr steel rims? Any rubbing issues?

I'm looking at this setup but with stock rims which are ?+30 offset? Do yours scrub even with the castor wound all the way forward?

I have 265/70/17 on standard SR steel wheels, they scrub front right mud guard at half turn to the right, I haven't done wheel alignment yet (getting 2" lift soon). Just removed front mudguards and all ok to drive.

My set up is as follows.

2017 SR5 dual cab

Rims are 16x8 with a negative 12 offset (tires stick out a little as someone told me they are borderline defect)

Tires are 265/75R16 Mickey Thompson MTZs

I have a 2inch lift but it’s heavy laden while touring bringing the car down.

I do have scrubbing issues on the rear guard
That’s as much the offset then anything else. About quarter turn scrubs. Full lock all good.
(ARB bar up front so no issue there)

Plans to resolve my issues.
Two fold.
For the overhang I want the TRD flares if they ever become a aftermarket part in oz.
secondly will likely change out UCAs as soon as I have the splash cash to pull everything that little bit further forward. Literally only touching by a couple mm and if I’m accelerating around the corner I don’t have any trouble but I do want to get the mud flaps back on.

Hello!

I have tried to read as much as possible. But having som difficulties with the offset. So would really appreciate any input in the matter :D

I have bought a Hilux 2018. No lift to begin with. 20 mm flares. I don't want the tire to go outside the flare.

I'm gonna go with BFG KO2 265/70/17. Guess I have to remove mudflaps, but if so, I can live with that :)

I'm looking at:
1. Deegan Pro 4, 17x9, comes with 0 offset. Think ill be fine, 8 mm to flare.
2. Pro Comp 7069, 17x9, comes with -6 offset. It will be close, only 2 mm to flare.

Have I predicted this things right? What do you guys think about it, any problems in sight?

Anybody have any picture or link on similar set up? :D

Thanks!

G'day, Barret
I have the same tyres but Mickey T's ATZ P3's. I have +25 offset wheels and mine never scrub. I've tried zero offsets and they scrub on >75% steering lock
55mm lift up front
Hope this helps

So confused on rims/tyres!

Postby Finch on Sat, 13 Jul 2019 7:21 +0000

Hey guys,
I've been trawling the forum but so confused!

Hoping someone can help in a simple answer.

Have a 2017 SR5. From what I can work out, I pretty much can't go anything bigger on standard (18") rims without scrubbing.

I'm looking at downsizing to 17" factory rims. Suggestions on best biggest size to go without scrubbing.

No suspension upgrade yet, will go 2" eventually but alas not for a year or so.

Cheers,

Finch

Mate there is a full thread on this. A large tyre may still rub even with a lift. Adjusting the UCAs forward solves most of the problems if your alignment can be maintained within the specs.

275/65/18 seems to work. Just note there are slight differences between vehicles and differences between tyre manufacturers for the equivalent sized tyre.

Do you want bigger tyres or taller sidewalls? 17" rims won't help if the tyre diameter ends up the same as whatever 18" tyres you were looking at putting on.
