Rubbing Issues? 265/70R17 Tire on 17" Toyota OEM Wheel.

Postby M1Tanker on Wed, 01 Jun 2016 7:54 +0000

I recently visited an off road shop in Bangkok (VVP 4x4 Center) and a gentleman there recommended the B.F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 in size LT265/70R17. He stated that it will fit on my standard OEM Toyota aluminum wheel, 17 inch x 7.5 inch. The OEM tires are size 265/65R17.

Has anyone fitted the B.F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 in size LT265/70R17 to a OEM Toyota aluminum wheel, 17 inch x 7.5 inch? If so were there any issues? Rubbing? Speedometer accuracy issues?

Going from a 31" tyre to 32" will mean 97km on speedo will be 100kph, so you'll always be 3% out

8" rim is preferred, but is suited for 7" up

Fitting 32" tyres (well 31.6") in most cases scrubs on front without 30mm min lift
Many also run a min of positive 18 offset wheel as well

There a good tyre and 5 rotated regularly should see 80,000kms no issues
If you only get 4 expect about 65,000kms out of the set
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

john253a, Thanks for the reply.

One of the reasons that I ask is that I am interested in adding a bull bar. Toyota Thailand does not offer the OEM bull bar that Toyota Australia and Toyota New Zealand do. (NOTE: Most of what Toyota Thailand offers on the Hilux (Revo) as far as optional accessories are just cosmetic and not functional.) The only real option is the ARB Deluxe Bull Bar which, if I understand the VVP 4x4 Center Bangkok sales guy correctly, was developed and tested for the generation 8 Hilux ABS and does operate properly with that ABS system. I hope that is true.

He stated that if I add the ARB Deluxe Bull Bar I should add the ARB Old Man EMU suspension kit that adds about a 1 inch lift.

Any comments are appreciated.

FYI When I test drove a hilux SR with the factory 17"s the speedo was 3-4% fast anyway (reading 100 at 96/97kph).

On the hilux I'm buying I will go with the 70 ratio tyre to fix this.
