Hey Guys,

Just put pen to paper on a new Silver Sky DC Cab Chassis SR (won't be in Aus till August) and I wanted to know what 17" alloy rims people are fitting to these new Hilux's.

It seems that Toyota are only offering 18" options for these new vehicles. I'd rather stick with a 17" rim as the tyre profile is better for off roading options. I'd also like to go Alloy as I'm a bit over Steel Sunraysia rims.

I was hoping people might have a few pics of there trucks with different rims. Also thinking the old SR5 rims off the pre-2015 hilux's might look ok.

Well, I did it. I sold my 2005 2.5 manual Hilux and have a 2.8 auto on order which will arrive in a couple of weeks. Hopefully.

It comes stock with only 265/60R18 HTs
Just reading the forums it seems that 16's would be tricky to fit, so I'm looking for 17's and hopefully can find someone who bought the 2.4 Hilux which comes with 265/65R17 for a sale or trade.

So I ended up going Dick Cepek Rims in a 16” just gotta watch the tires size as these have a neg offset so they will push the tire out (greater swing back and forth).
Other then that. They are a solid set of rims. They did 10,000 km in 4 weeks 4,500 of that on some pretty bad corrugations. The brake disc shields were replaced as they both cracked and failed rims didn’t miss a beat.
This is the second set of these I have owned. First set were rock solid on my 07 lux. Also in 16”

Mate this looks like it’s exactly what I want to achieve. Love the look and stance of the DC’s. My tire bloke tells me I can’t achieve this in the 17” on the SR because the tyres will hang out 63mm past standard SR5 width. But with front flares will I be able to turn the fronts without a lift kit? Do you have any shots showing how far they actually stick out? Would really love to go with the blackouts!

So guys I have had these rims on the ute for over 12 months

They are worth the fight as I just love the look. As for clearance there on there. Caliper clearance is tight. But it fits. Drum has heaps of room.

Scrubbing and scraping yeah that happens due to offset.

I took the mud guard off and chopped some panel.
You can see in the pic the clean spot it still touches if under load. (This could be partially fixed with UCA’s but there not in the budget at the moment.)
As for how far they stick out. See pics so far touch wood no cop has given me trouble. But I have been told by one they are boarderline defect.

Cool mate, thanks for the info and pics, sure does look tough. What size tyres are those and how much lift have you got? You mentioned calipers clearance was minimal, I’ve been looking at 17”s so I shouldn’t have any trouble there. I’m wanting to go 265/65/17 KO2’s on the 17x9 DC Blackouts with neg12 offset. Definitely want the wide and aggressive stance. From my calculations my overall tyre diameter should be only 30.56” with 10.43” width. Reckon I’ll still swing them around inside the guards without lift, given the neg12 offset?

Honestly I just don’t know.
My size is 265/75R16 roughly a 31 1/2” according to google.
Your 265/65R17 is roughly a 30 1/2”
It might be just enough. But a lift will help for daily drive. You have to remember a lift will take it away but load it up flex it out you will still hit if you gone too big or too neg.

I run a 2” lift but it’s a conservative lift the other pics look great but that is freshly dropped on the hoist after it rolls level it always drops some more.
Makes a nice pic but is a little game play.
( trap for young players looking at buying a new car as the “lift might not be as big as it looks.)

Thanks for the info mate, appreciate it! Might be a bit touch and go for what I want then, at this stage most of its use will be on the highway, just chasing the wide look

Keep in mind that is 42mm wider offset from standard. That will likely be scrubbing the front guards and body mounts. I have 31.50” KM2s which are pretty close to the body mount on standard rims and suspension. I also had to trim front guards a little bit. 42mm wider offset is a pretty big difference. FYI it’s also illegal if that concerns you.

Cheers ggreenie, all very valid & good points, I’ve been also looking at Tuff AT’s T-06, 16x8 p10 or 17x9 p25. Looking at what Myralga has been saying regarding dropping back a size to 16’s, might be a good idea as the rims and tyres seem cheaper? Will eliminate the neg offset problem with these rims and they look pretty similar, will depend on the pricing from the dealers tomorrow. Is there any pros & cons to going from 17”s back to 16”s?

Not really a great deal of difference. But 16s are better if you ask me.

The price of 16” tyres tends to be less as mentioned. Also less wheel and more tyre is generally better off road.

Thanks mate, have you got any pics of your clearances at all? Did you have any problem clearing the calipers?

My wheels will remain the standard 17x7.5 p30 steelies until the tyres wear out. Then I’ll be going to 16s.

As for clearances for reference, I have 265/70-17 KM2s on original suspension and there’s about 12mm to the body mounts on either side. I also had to trim the bottom bit of the front guards to stop them scrubbing. I’m not On photo hosting sites so no photos, sorry.
