OEM Tires and Recommended Replacements

Postby M1Tanker on Wed, 04 May 2016 10:11 +0000

I live in Thailand and own a 2015 Hilux Revo Double Cab 2.8G AT 4x4. It is the new eighth generation Hilux. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wheels are aluminum 17x7.5. I believe these same wheels are also available from Toyota New Zealand. The OEM tires are Dunlop AT Grandtek 265/65R17 112S AT25.

What are the Toyota OEM tires for the 17x7.5 wheels in Australia and New Zealand?

What do you all recommend as replacement tires that will fit the OEM 17x7.5 wheel?

My mate has same tyres as you
As far as what to fit, that is 100% subjective
My personal option is Goodyear, toyo, bfg and mickey's
All I have ran and all no issues running again, but witch tyre to run is what I'm doing with the car and where I want to go with it
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

I have the new SR which has 17x7.5 rims and I've gone with coopers ST maxx in the same size as stock (265/65R17). As john253a has said its very subjective on what to fit. I went with the coopers after running two sets of the same tires on my previous hilux with no punctures but have heard of others who hate them! Good luck!

john253a and Mutto, Thank you for your responses.

Recently my left rear tire suffered a two inch gash puncturing the outer side wall. I have no idea how it got there. Since it was an OEM tire I went to the local Toyota dealerships, expecting that they had the tire on hand, and was surprised to hear that they would have to order the tire (Dunlop AT Grandtek 265/65R17 112S AT25).

I then went to the local Dunlop dealership and they do not stock OEM tires as well and had to order the tire. This recent experience has caused me to look for a good tire that I can find just about anywhere anytime. The roads here in Thailand aren't good and I'm sure this will not be my last flat tire.

Here are some of the tires that appear, based on my research, to be available in Thailand:
1. Bridgestone Dueler H/T D684
2. Bridgestone D697 (265/65R17 LT)
3. Dunlop GRANDTREK AT3: (NOTE: Allowable wheel width? Dunlop Thailand states 8.)
4. Dunlop GRANDTREK AT22: (NOTE: Allowable wheel width? Dunlop Thailand states 8.)
5. Goodyear WRANGLER AT/SA
6. Maxxis AT700 BRAVO
7. Maxxis MT764 BIGHORN
8. Yokohama Geolandar ATS G012 (NOTE: Wheel width?)
9. Toyo Open Country A/T II
10. Toyo Open Country A/T Plus
11. B.F. Goodrich (NOTE: Couldn't find at tire in 265/65R17.)
12. Michelin (NOTE: Only SUV tire available.)

I'd appreciate to hear from anyone about their experiences with the aforementioned tires.

2,5,9,10 and 11
Would be m picks from that
2 should be the cheapest and is a good onroad tyre for the price
9 and 10 are a very good tyre and come with some good recommendations in many forums
5 I'm running them daily (mud tyres) and no issues at all

john253a,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and for your recommendations. I'll check to see how readily those tires are available around where I live as well as any remote areas I may visit.

I recently visited an off road shop in Bangkok (VVP 4x4 Center) and a gentleman there recommended the B.F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 in size LT265/70R17. He stated that it will fit on my standard OEM Toyota aluminum wheel, 17 inch x 7.5 inch. As previously stated the OEM tires are size 265/65R17. Has anyone fitted the B.F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 in size LT265/70R17 to a OEM Toyota aluminum wheel, 17 inch x 7.5 inch? If so were there any issues? Rubbing? Speedometer accuracy issues?

Does anyone have experience with the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 or the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S?

john253a or anyone else,

I've come across a fairly good sales price for Goodyear Wrangler AT/SAs. What are your experiences with them?

Thanks!
