I had Cooper ST Maxx 275 65 R18 on standard SR5 rims fitted last week and had to baby it home to pull the mud flaps off the front. After that it seemed ok, however I have since found that at certain angles and speeds over driveway cross overs or the like there is further scrubbing on the inner plastic guard.

Heading offroad is sure to worsen the srubbing which is what I was hoping to avoid.

I have OME lift with ARB bar on front.

I've been told today that adjustable upper control arms would likly help this at circa $1k suppllied and fitted. Anyone got any comments on this advice?

Just a further update to my previous post, after a few discussions and 3 wheel alignments later I have got Cooper ST Maxx 275 65 R18 fitted and appear at this stage not to be scrubbing. I had a bit more detail in my post under my member build if your interested. A pic of testing for scrubbing after the final wheel alignment and a final adjustment of 1.5 deg castor.

Has anyone put 275/70R18 in the new hilux? What did he have to do? I have lift OME in mine and wanted to put these measures.

Dametto, that is about 30mm dia bigger than the size I have just put on, based on what I have experienced with this size I would think the chances are slim without cutting the body or something similar.

Interested if you figure out how to do it though.

Stodd85, Stodd85, hi mate I'm looking st getting a he same tyres on my new hilux in the next 4 weeks or so. Just wandering what exactly did you need to do to make it work?

Hi Matt,

I did quite a detailed write up in my build thread, but the short version is I had to take off the front mud flaps and have the castor angle adjusted. Once you have a read of my other thread let me know if you need anything else.

I have 275/65/18 BFG KO2 stock height. I had to remove the front mud flaps as it just touched on full lock.

I'll refit the mud flaps today after a little bit of manipulation from a heat gun about 5mm should be enough.

Would you now try driving only that wheel up a 30-40cm ramp and turn the wheel between 15 and 30 degrees
Clearance looks good on flat tarmack - but under articulation the wheel will go backwards

I have about 3-4mm clearance with the lower control arm on the bump stop. There is a little sort of rectangle hump on the mud flap that just touches the edge of the tyre, with the heat gun, I heated this hot then using a flat alloy drift tool or brickies set for example, squashed it down as far as I could for extra clearance obviously there is metal behind this so it didn't move much but it was enough.

Has anybody tried the Superior Engineering adjustable upper control arms to increase the castor? Just wondering if this would give some extra clearance from the rear. I'm hoping to squeeze the 275/65 r18 KO2's in but not convinced that they won't rub when off-road...

Correction.. the control arms are by Superpro.

Has anyone tried running a negative offset wheel package (18x10 -24) on the standard suspension setup?

Morning gents.
So yesterday I had a set of 275/65/18 Ko2's fitted to the standard rims.
I then got an alignment and asked the guy doing it to begin by winding the castor forward until the position of the wheel and tyre in the guard was optimal, then start the alignment process from there.
So 32 inch tyres fitted, mudflaps still on and heaps of clearance in most places and I don't think there will be any rub on the body anywhere off road.
So now for the not so good part.
The top of the tyres just rub against the underside of the UCA at absolute full lock.
Its a very minor thing and I possibly might just leave it as is. I'm so happy with results otherwise and the tyres only just touch. But if I were compelled to fix it, what would be the best way?
given the tyres rub underneath the UCA I wonder if a new set of UCA's would achieve anything? They mostly appear to be fundamentally the same shape as the OG ones. Or would a better option be to go for a rim with a bit more offset (Maybe in the +15 to +20 range). Or is more fiddling with the alignment the best way forward?

How does the speedo account for the different tyre sizes on Hilux?

Back in the day on the Falcons, you had to replace this speedo gear inside the gearbox to re-calibrate the speedo...

Hi guys, i had gone through some treads. Does anyone facing tyre rubbing sway bar with 275/65R18 stock rim?
I just done tyre changed but it rub when full lock.
Here are my mod:
2021 Hilux ,exact 2inch lift with bullbar, relocated sway bar mounting, Black Hawk UCA
Btw, just to share, i had done a 3” lift before and inner side of stock rim hit the sway bar at full lock, ends up i lowered it to 2inch. I removed the mudflap and tyre not rubbing too.

my tyres rub the sway bar. Its never really worried me.

Not very often you drive on full lock so unless you're worried about the paint, don't stress.
