Hi there, I've been reading many posts about fitting bigger tyres in the GEN8 Hilux, and the related rubbing problems. It seems a common fix to install a suspension lift, but to my knowledge, a BODY LIFT should be a preferred option to clear bigger tyres, as the suspension lift does not give a real help when the wheel is compressed.
Anyway I've seen almost nobody here doing a body lift, WHY ?

Don't get improved suspension performance, trouble fitting bar work etc. but you are correct, it is the best 'lift' for better clearance.

If I was looking for a 4 inch lift I'd seriously consider a 50mm body lift. I only want a 2inch lift on the lux though for my intentions in this one.

Thanks for reply.
Yeah, I know, suspension lift has other advantages, but just for the subject of clearing bigger tyres, it's not an effective fix IMHO.

Creaky, what you mean by "trouble fitting bar work" ?

Cause the body sits 50mm (or so) higher off the chassis compared to standard it means that things like rfont bars, rear bars, side rails/steps that mount to the chassis to not sit right against the body. You are then left with a couple of more boutique commercial manufacturers or custom made bar work.

Thanks for clarification... yeah in these modern vehicles a body lift looks to be even more complicated than a suspension lift !

Done mate... My 54 UCAs are adjusted rearwards, so if the Lowers Control Arm has enough edjustment, there is plenty of adjustment left. It scrubs pretty badly with a 4" lift, 0 offset, 285/65-16 (ie 32.6").

I'd add pics, but I don't know how...

Stock tyre size 265/60 R18 on 18x9.0 rims, 0 offset.
Sidewall of tyres stick out past guards, treads still within outermost edge.

Wheel & Tyres Size - Help

Hi All,

just wondering who'd be able to help me out. i have a 2016 SR5 and looking to place some wider tyres with All terrains.

i was aiming to put 17" rims x 9. and the wheels (275/65r17) preferably something like a KO2 BFG. Does anyone know if this can fit without me having to do a lift on the car??

thanks guys!

J

I have 17 x 9 18 offset with 265/65/17 and there is very little clearance to the rear of the front guards even with 2" lift. Plenty of people have gone bigger by removing the mud flaps and wheels alignments though. I didn't want to worry about scrubbing or hurting fuel economy so stuck with the standard size just with better tyres.

Slightly OT however wondering if anyone got SR5 and was able to get the factory rims but in matte black? Like these on Toyota website- http://www.toyota.com.au/special-offers ... d0cb6bc594
Ordering SR5 tomorrow and dealer wasn't sure. I don't mean the "optional accessory" ones in alloy either just to clarify
Cheers!

Wondering if someone could post a photo of a 2015-17 hilux with 9 inch rims (p18 offset) with 265 tyres.
I'm going to order rims soon and don't want to get it wrong.
I don't want the rim and tyre to hang out too much and don't want it to scrub.

If anyone has got a pic or 285's on a standard Hilux can you post it? I've heard you get a bit of rub on full lock but was keen to know exactly how much...

I have 265/70R17 up from the standard 265/65R17 on a gen 8 hilux and will be going 275/70R17 next time for the slightly larger sidewall which should protect the rims from gutter rash/kerbing.
