I'm running stock size with 18x9 rims on 0 offset and 2" lift and it rubs the mudguards just before full lock. Bigger tyres will require positive offsets, how much i do not know.
To increase the tyre clearance, I had to remove the plastic fender guard to access the body panel corner (to which the mudflap is attached) and do a bit of clever metal bending.

Whatever you do has to comply with ADR, so much info out there, hard to find exact details. Call your local rego office if you want.

If you have a accident or alike, your insurance company will go over your vehicle to make sure it complies, if it doesnt they don't pay.

This is from the RTA document

Replacement of tyres that change tyre overall diameter by more than 7% of the overall
original diameter*.

* ’overall original diameter’ means the maximum outside diameter of the largest tyre
specified by the vehicle’s original manufacturer as an option for the vehicle, as shown
on the vehicle’s tyre placard.

Example requiring certification:
• Replacing 215/65R17 (712 mm overall diameter) tyres with 265/65R17 (776 mm
overall diameter) tyres, an increase in overall diameter of 64 mm, or 8%.

Example not requiring certification:
• Replacing 215/65R17 (712 mm overall diameter) tyres with 235/65R17 (738 mm
overall diameter) tyres, an increase in overall diameter of 26 mm, or 4%.

Tip: To determine if the tyres you have selected require certification you need to look at
the tyre placard fitted to the vehicle by the manufacturer. Sometimes the tyre placard
will show more than one tyre size, allowing optional tyres of that size to be fitted. If one
of the tyre sizes marked on the placard (eg 215/65R17) matches the marking on the
tyre sidewalls, certification is not required.

There are a few sites, like https://tiresize.com/comparison/ that will compare 2 sizes, and give you the % difference in all the measurements

Hi earlyninja, with the 0 offset how much do the stock tyres stick out the guards?

Stock tyre size 265/60 R18 on 18x9.0 rims, 0 offset.
Sidewall of tyres stick out past guards, treads still within outermost edge.

Seems like will be a while before there will be some answers, I going to try a 17x8.5 0 offset with a 285/70/17 with 60mm of lift all round.... Might just have to go some bolt on spacers... :?

Hi Fellas, i have just fitted 17x9 +18 wheels and 285/65-17 tyres....no lift. Tyres slightly touch mud flaps when turning and suspension is under load

Fitted up some 17x8.5 0 offsets today with 285/70s I have 3" lift at the front wheels fit easily.
Tyres hit front min flaps sooo they had to go. Need to push the caster forward soo the tyre doesn't rub on the body mount when suspension is compressing

I have fitted 275/65/18 hankook dynapros to mine. Without the 2 inch lift i had to remove the front mud flap and after that is is still really close to hitting the on the rear of the front guard and bumper. Now i have put the lift under it its fine. I still think it will rub when offroading though.

"Legally", you can only go 2" above standard with either tyres/suspension/bodylift or a combination of all 3 before requiring engineering approvable.

Therefore, to remain "legal" by the book, leave the hilux with stock standard suspension (or stock standard suspension height), and fit 2" larger tyre.

Standard tyres being 30.6" in diameter, you can therefore fit 32.6" overall diameter tyres.....so a small 285 tyre.

That's all changed as of late last year a hilux is now covered under MR section
http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/Safet ... eering.pdf

Upto 3" 75mm max total lift no engineers 3-6" total lift requires engineers
Max 2" larger tyres no engineeres 2-4" requires engineeres
Max 2" lift no engineeres 2-6" requires engineeres
Max 2" 50mm wider track no engineeres 2-8" requires engineeres

So 2" lift and 2" tyres = 3" total lift, 100% road legal no
P05 wheels is biggest neg offset over stanard legal (factory being p30)

A common lift and tyre size I see being fitted to stay cost effective and retain drivetrain reliability
without diffdrop and a lot of other expensive parts
30mm lift
265 wide 32" tyres
P18 offset wheels
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................
