If u want to try

Chrysler s way:

1)Turn key to ON/START - within 60 seconds, turn ignition OFF and fasten the driver seat belt.

2)Start engine and wait for the seat belt light to turn off.

3)Within 60 seconds unbuckle/re buckle the seat belt 3 times - ending with buckled, you will hear a single chime (sometimes this verification chime is slightly different just the same it works to disable the chime).

This confirms you have turned the repeater chimes off. Repeat the sequence or disconnect the battery to restore the reminder function."

Disconnecting the battery will reset the chime and you'll have to do it again!

LR and Ford:
simply turn ignition on then rapidly (within 1 min) put the safety belt in & out of the clip 9 times! On the 9th time the safety belt light will stay on for a while & then after that you still get the safety belt light but not the "beep"

Dont blame me if your neighbor wonders what you are doing in your car sittingin the driveway playing with this...

I bought http://www.drewtech.com/mongoose/toyota2.html
It is expensive, but it is better than risk to destroy something With a cheap cable from China.
I tried to buy Access to techstream from http://www.toyota-tech.eu/ but i did not work.
A quick Google search give you links to techstream.

I have two Hiluxs .A 2014 & 2015. In both, the programming method disabled the seat belt beeping OK but unplugging the key alarm has led to the system auto-locking the doors on occasions as it thinks the key has been taken. Have also had it do it with the key just pulled from ign. and thrown in the console tray.
Not sure if it is a glitch in the computer or me disconnecting - SO - get a key cut & hide it on the chasis somewhere. I'm with you guys - I don't need Toyota's engineers to think for me - I can still do that myself!!!!!

Hi guys. So what’s the concensis - is unplugging the switch going to stuff up the airbags or not.

I’ve tried the programming and no luck.

I think, and its just me. But if you disable the seat belt warning by just uplugging a power cord from under the seat, it tells the vehicle that no one is there. Hence deployment of airbags won't trigger for the passenger.

I hear you, and its a pain, but reaching over and engaging the seat belt might be a better thing to do.

I particularly HATE, the electric drivers seat. Everytime i get the vehicle serviced, the guy screws with it ,and it takes me a week to get it back to a good position.
I thought about pulling the fuse, but not doubt they'd find the problem the second its plugged into btheir diagnostic system

2018 SR5 Dual Cab - Seat Belt Sensor

Postby Stephen.Coff on Sat, 16 Jun 2018 10:07 +0000

So i've read a few posts regarding this and whilst I've read and seen pics stating the seat belt sensors can be turned off, I'm unable to get this done. I witnessed my local Toyota Dealer use the scan tool and no such option popped up.

So i figured it was either it was either opening or closing the circuit and thought I'd start with finding the plug, remove that and drive around the block to see if fixed it. Can you believe it, simply unplugged the cable and no beep, solved. So for any wanting the seat belt unplugged beeping to stop. Look under the front of your drivers seat, you'll see 3x plugs. Unplug the middle, small white one.

My question is: There is talk and suggestions that doing so, the car thinks no-one is in that seat and hence wont activate air bags for the driver. Can anyone confirm facts here with this?

What about all the cars driving around waiting for faulty takata airbags to be replaced, they are all technically unroadworthy ....

Good conversations regarding implications of disconnecting under seat plug previously discussed here
I dont know about the electrical implications however I would strongly consider both vehicle insurance policy and medical insurance implications.

I work on job sites (private land) and driving from one side of the job site to another at 5-10k's for a trip 1-2mins isn't when i'd typically throw on my seat belt. The beeping drives me nuts and hence my interest, each to their own and assume all on here are driving hence adults and can make the right choices.

So i called Toyota today and confirmed no the seat belt doesn't play any influence in the air bag operation and should have know better. When i first brought my car I complained about lumps in the seat, those were the air bag sensor to determine a person is in the seat.

My cars a 2018 SR5+ Dual Cab and hence can't comment on differences between models though did note the plug has maybe 6-8pins though in my situation only 2 used for the seat belt. Other models and options i assume must have other pins used for other things, what i don't know. If your car has other multiple pins. Remove seat (4x bolts) and undo plug. Trace seat belt wires and simply pull those pins and tape them up. If in my case and only seat belt then just remove the plug.

Good on you for calling toyota
Did they condone disconnecting the plug?
Have you called your vehicle insurance and ask if they condone?
Yes - we are all capable of making choices.
Now you can make an informed choice ;)

Any decent scan tool can turn off the seatbelt buzzer

I have done it with my 2018 rugged x

Do not disconnect the plug

Who ever told you that disconnecting the plug has no side effects is wrong

And it is very dangerous

Takes 5 secs to do properly with the right tools

Disconnecting the white plug tells the computer that the seat belt 'tag' is plugged in, stopping the buzzer
No different than plugging the seat belt in and then sitting on top of the belt.
Do you think that the airbag circuit needs to know that a driver is in the DRIVERS seat.

That's the problem

You don't want your airbag deploying on you if your not wearing your seat belt

If it thinks your wearing it but really your not, there could be serious consequences

And no, the airbag should not deploy if you are not wearing a seatbelt
