2016 SR5 - Auto Lights Sensitivity.

Hi all,

I noticed a comment elsewhere but no real followup. My 2016 SR5 auto headlights seem too sensitive. If I drive under a bridge etc for like 2 seconds the lights will come on. Not only are they coming on but then wont go off after several kms.

I understand the dealer can change the setting? Is it a quick thing? Is there a percentage setting that they can pick from?

Thanks,

Hi Mitchnewy, According to the owners handbook on page 516 it can be adjusted from -2 to +2 but only by the dealer & it does not say how long it takes, my guess would be about ten minutes if the dealer knows his stuff. :) CHEERS.

if your into a bit of touch your nose with your right foot in the air and flashing dimmer switch it can be done without going to dealers. You just need to no who to go to ;) Sensitivity can be changed form -40 -20 0 +20 +40

Factory set at 0. Have set mine to -40 and is spot on now.

Is it possible to share with us this extravagant method? I live 400km from closest dealer so this would be great.

Ok. So don't be upset if you don't get it the first time.

1) switch ignition to on
2) make sure dimmer switch is in lowbeam and not pushed forward into constant high beam
3) turn light switch onto parker setting

4) turn ignition off
5)Hold headlights into highbeam
6)While highbeam is pulled on, turn to headlight than back to parker ( not auto) 5 times

7)Release high beam
( the headlamps will flash in relation to what setting they are currently set on. It should flash 3 times with the setting being 0 )( if they don't flash you and not in the settings.)

8) Hold highbeam on again and turn between headlight and parker setting.

The number of times you turn it will vary the sensitivity.
Once -40
Twice -20
Three 0
Four +20
Five +40

9) Once you have turned between headlamps and parker for your desired preference release the highbeam.

The headlamps will flash for the number that you have selected.

And once it flashes say once, you are all complete :) :)

I personally have mine set to -40 and find it perfect but if you want to try -20 give it a shot.

Now bend over touch your toes while turning your head in circles. :P

I believe him... a lot of Toyota setting are done like this. Turning the horn chirp on and off was something similar on the Avalon

It's like a hand/eye co-ordination test. Wouldn't mind finding out the forced regeneration sequence.

100% serious. Why would i bother to to go to all the effort to type it up if i was not srs.

Regen is only possible with use of scan tool. Why would you want to force it though just drive it and let it do its thing

Thanks heaps for this I'll do it tonight. Sorry - I'm new to the push button start. When you say switch ignition to on - do you mean press once, twice, or start the engine?

Dealer or someone with scan tool can change the volume. A lot of custom features have to be done via scan tool, so i was not sure why the head lamp had to be done manually.

I knew you were serious bud :)

Reason being Also, being a Cummins ISX EGR GURU myself, we are told by the dealer to perform burn offs whenever necessary, even if not required....keeping build up to a minimum. It has kept a lot of our burn boxes out of trouble. I'm well aware of it being unnecessary and aren't too phased to let it take care of itself. Was just curious.

I'm surprised that your current speed can not be displayed in the centre info display....or is it a possibility? Piratepete I'm looking in your direction! :p

Thanks for the info. I followed the process last night. The lights were set at -20 originally. I've set it at -40 and will see what happens. This morning was the first test but they still seem sensitive. They went off at least once and each time within 5 seconds went back on. I thought this would delay longer before activating. Unless my sensor on the dash is faulty?
