Six speed N80 Hilux auto trans fluid level

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the correct temperature setting for the fluid level with the no dipstick transmissions.
Have previously done fluid flush & set the level after a short drive to warm things up to operating temperature.
Overfilled the tranny by approx. 500 ml & dropped the level plug until a trickle of fluid & replace the plug. This procedure seems to work fine.
However I would like to be a bit more accurate, don't have a scan gauge & use an infrared digital thermometer which works fine on the pan.
Have checked various web sites, some say 46 degrees c, others say 40 to 45 degrees c & the last was 46 to 56 degrees c.
I have set mine at 53 degrees c at present.
Appreciate any information as to the correct temperature setting. Thank you.

Where did and how set the temperature mate?

I think your over thinking it.
If it had a dipstick there would be close to a 10mm bit on it which is acceptable.

Be careful of non-contact thermometers. You need to know the thermal emissivity of the surface to get the right temperature.

I don't have a scan gauge & didn't use the procedure to bridge data link connector terminals 4 & 13. I use an Infrared Digital Thermometer against the pan which I find works well.
Take vehicle for a short drive to get everything up to temperature. Switch off & wait for trans temperature to drop down to between 35 to 45c ( this could take half an hour ) then with the engine running & trans in park remove the level plug, wait till the fluid starts to trickle & replace plug, all done.
Have now re set mine to 45c. Note if level is set at to low a temperature then it may be overfull when hot also if set at to high a temperature it may be underfill when hot.
Technology has gone crazy on all later vehicles & all to do with making more money for the dealer & doing the DIY guy out of a job. Much simpler on my old 3 liter Hilux Auto with dipstick.

What emissivity constant are you using for the pan surface?
