Hilux kun26 gearbox issue

Postby Lukiebs1984 on Wed, 09 Sep 2020 9:08 +0000

Advise please!

I have an 07 hilux dual cab Kun26 and the gear box is having issues.

It’s the usual loud bearing noise in 1st 2nd 3rd and fifth which started getting bad the last week or so and this morning the gear stick wants to pop out of first and starts to move to pop on third.

Is this just bearing related? Which bearings would be the issue?

Sorry for all the questions just want to be sure because Getting parts where I am (Surat QLD) is a long and painful process

Thanks

If you are pulling the gearbox out, change them all. No point in just changing the faulty ones only to be back to square one in a couple of months.
How many kilometers on the Hilux?
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Great advice Gipsy. She has 240000 on the clock. It has been over 100000 km since I put a heavy duty clutch in so she has been good to me. I’ll order a bearing kit.

A little nervous doing it but I’ve done pretty much everything else on the car myself.

No harm if you are ok with doing it, just changing old for new. Check the synchros too, they often are the culprit. If you're saving on labour it's worth replacing the lot.

Just get a used one from a wrecker. The early ones had weak bits but updates (cant remeber when) sorted this. Had mine done at 80000kms - got full bearings and output shaft for $2k nearly 10 years ago.

Anything post 2009 should be fine. I've seen them for $1600 on ebay with a transfer attached.
I might be wrong.

Thanks for the info guys . Appreciate it.

I’m thinking of just getting a Reco with heavy duty clutch. $2500 all up with exchange of old unit.
