Standard wheels are 18x7.5 P30

It would be very close to the Upper control arm......might rub on full lock.
I know 32/11.5x15 tyres fit on a 15x7 P30 rim (i know its not legal, but as reference), but thats only because the diameter tucks in underneath the edge of the Upper Control Arm.

If possible, i would reccomend asking if you could trial fit one tyre then fit to the vehicle and check the steering. if you pull it off, bonus, great setup.

If not, I would reccomend a P20 or P15 wheel to run that size.

You might get away with it with an aftermarket UCA, but it is a very postive offset for that sized tyre.

Maybe ask others in the wheel section what they have done with this size?

Hey Max your a knowledgable chap haha I was just about set on 4.1s from a prado but plan on running 33s daily for now then 35s a touch later. 4.3s would be perfect for 35s on the manual trans and would still be good on the 33s great as i feel even stock the gearing was a touch high. So i should be able to get these 4.3 front ratios and the 4.3 rears are pretty common lots of aftermarket make them here. I guess im looking to know if the 4.3s will be able to fit my front provided i purchased a prado or newhilux locker?

Mate, you are confusing things.
You cannot get aftermarket 4.3 for the rear of 2016 hilux as the diff is larger than the previous gen hilux. Only factory option at this stage in that ratio.

8.8" as opposed to 8" previously.

You will need a locker to suit 3.9 gears and up, same as prado120 front locker. If you run 3.5s standard then youd.need to run the same front hilux locker as previous gen hilux to suit 3.5/3.7.

Remember, the new hilux workmate eith 2.4diesel runs 4.1 gears standard so if you have a manual hilux with 3.5 gears these 4.1s are a good option.

Yes, the new hilux looks like it is geared abit too tall, so going a ratio slighter higher than what is perfect for your tyre size will actually be a good setup in my opinion as it will bring in 6th gear earlier and make it more useable, thus also getting you through all the ither geara a little earlier as well.....which will not only imlrove your fuel econony but will also give you a slower crawl ratio in 1st gear low range compared to stock setup. Win win.

Nitro gears will have 4.5s coming out towards the end of the year to suit for thise with big tyres anf an auto.
...ill be getting these next year when they are out.

I have some 4.88 aftermarket gears coming to suit the new hilux, for some builds, along with the fronts in the "non thick" version also for the 3.9 and up carrier.

Going 4.88s to run 35s on these ones with 4.75 rim offset, and UCAs to work with wider tyres for clearance.

Might be worth doing a build thread on them.

Gentlemen, I have put together a summary of tyre diameters versus diff ratios for people to compare the difference between the setups.

Base reference point is 2.8D Hilux Auto, 3.9 diff ratio, 30.5" stock tyre diameter, 6th gear ratio is 0.58:1, giving you 1557rpm at 100kph.

NOTE: Because the calculator used doesnt provide a spot for 6th gear, I inputed the 6th gear actual ratio into the 5th gear position on the calculator, 5th gear actual ratio into 4th gear position on the calculator etc etc etc.

Feel free to scrutinize, but this i think is a pretty good reference to see what difference 4.5 and 4.8 ratios will make at 100kph.

Nitro fitted its pre prod set to a Tacoma yesterday, and 4.88s are a couple of months away all going well.

I've not enamored with the (IMHO) too high ratios from 1 & 6.
I've since found what a PITA the high reverse is when try to back my loaded trailer up a grade.
Had to feather & ride the clutch, not the best thing for clutch longevity.
Oh for manual hubs, could just drop it into low range.

So I've calc'ed options using diff ratios listed in this post.

I've run some numbers for the 2.8l M/T using the above ratio calculator link.

For my tyres OD790 @1000 RPM, standard diff centre:
1st - 8.64km/hr
6th - 110km/hr @1600 RPM
Rev - 10.1km/hr. Reality is 8.8km/hr vide GPS or 13% loss. Where/how?

3.9's @1000 RPM:
1st - 7.94km/hr
6th - 112km/hr @1900 RPM
Rev - 9.33km/hr

4.1's @1000 RPM
1st - 7.55km/hr
6th - 106km/hr @1900 RPM
Rev - 8.8km/hr

4.3's @1000 RPM
1st - 7.2km/hr
6th - 102km/hr @1900 RPM
Rev - 8.4km/hr

For the $$ outlaid, I'd want more bang for buck than what the 3.9's provide,
so I'm leaning towards the 4.1's, although fuel consumption is not a concern for me,
the 4.3 is too revvy at 100/110k's which would impact range.

What do you guys & gals think with goal being to lower the crawl ratios forward & back? Hope my number are right too...

I believe it's an RC61F box with listed ratios as:
1st-4.784
2nd-2.423
3rd-1.443
4th-1.0
5th-0.826
6th-0.643

its a shame you cant select low range while still in 2WD, i used to do it in my old 94 lux and i found it really handy when it came to reversing trailers in awkward places

OD790 tyres equates to 31.1" tyres.
Standard Tyres are 777mm equating to 30.6" tyres.

Standard Tyres at 100kph in 6th your doing 1544rpm.

I you fit 4.1's with a OD790 tyre, your speedo will be out 14kph at 100kays.

At 100kph in 6th you will be revving at 1780rpm, in 5th gear you will be revving at 2278rpm. in 4th (1:1) you'll be revving at 2768rpm.

For normal driving, id say its a good setup, 6th gear will engage around 84kph, and will make it more effective at 100kph with 1780rpm and wont downshit up inclines as the standard hilux does.
You'll also get improved fuel economy below 100kph round town because you'll be shifting to a higher gear sooner, and your low range will be much better too.

the only thing i will state as a caution, is if your towing a heavy trailer in 6th.....im not sure how strong the 2nd overdrive would be pulling heavy loads.....other than that, the setup will work.

Im going almost the same setup with 4.8 gears in my auto next year with 33.5's.

RPM - 1544 Tyre Diameter - 790
Diff Ratio - 4.1

2nd Gear - 2.23 kph=25
3rd Gear - 1.443 kph=38.6
4th Gear - 1.0 kph=55.7
5th Gear - 0.823 kph=67.7
6th Gear - 0.643 kph=86.7

KPH=100
Diff Ratio=4.1
6th Gear=0.643
Tyre Diameter=790mm

Equates to an operating rpm of 1780rpm.

I had thr same benefit in my N70 with the second transfercase. Low range 2 wd was very helpful.

My 4.3 diff gears have arrived,along with the carrier and install kits, I got them from Nitro Gear and Axle as they are upgrading the stock 4.3s in Tacomas to 4.88s. Hopefully get them installed sometime in the next month.

I finally got the 4.3s installed in my sr manual and it is so much better. Cruises along nicely in 4th at 60km/hr, 5th at 80km/hr and 6th at 100 - 110km/hr. Crawls nice and slow in 1st low range. Sits on 2000rpm in 6th at 110/hr with the stock sized tyres.

(3.909 / 30.6”) X (34”) = 4.34:1


Regarding interchangeability with N70……front end is interchangeable and same Clamshell design and size. Therefore the 4.3:1 option is ideal for N70 owners now. They just need to find an aftermarket 4.3 ratio for the rear.

Rear end is not interchangeable as N80 runs 8.8” center as opposed to N70’s 8.0” rear center.
