I have just had the software update, no better clunks are getting real bad. Moss vale toyota are telling me they can't just order parts from toyota. How did you guys get them to replace the tail shaft? I told them i can tell them the part numbers and that my one has the old part.

I've been told the new tail shafts are still in short supply, that said, it's getting a bit ridiculous as my dealer apparently added me to the list to get one back in September but unfortunately I'm still waiting!

Sorry for the delay, I've been away. Call Toyota Australia and Lodge a complaint. Threaten to go on a TV or bash them on social media. Good chance you'll get it within a week. Seriously piss poor people are still having to put up with it.

I had the same issue. After toyota australia came had a look at my car them selfs. Took it for 4 weeks figured the tail shaft was to short. 2mm they put a revised one in never an issue. Also fixed the loose handbrake issue. Apparently i was one of the first to report it. all late 2016 models dont have the issues

So my Dual Cab SR5 has been back to Toyota 4 times now, and it is still clunking like a mothertrucker.

The first two times they pretty much just greased, and it helped for a few hundred km, the third time they filed the splines and greased, and that helped for a few hundred km, but when it came back it was worse than before.

Had it back there again 2 weeks ago, and they did nothing, only filled in a Dealer Product Report (DPR) to be sent to Toyota to replace the drive shaft

I am not sure how long the DPR process will take, but I have been thinking of taking it to a bunch of different dealers to see if someone else can do a better job. I know some folks have had luck with machining of the splines, etc. Do I have to take it to the same dealer I bought it from?

Seriously staring to hate this bloody truck.

I had mine re-greased at the 1000km service then last week at my 5000km service I complained that the clunk had come back and they ordered in a new tail shaft before I even asked them about it and I had it fitted two days later.

2016 SR5 auto, 10,000km auto update done. Always thought mine had the clunk from new. Had the 10k service and re-grease of tailshaft to no difference. Went and talked to toyota technician today and he came for a drive. He reckons that clunk when you slow down at light etc is the auto down shifting and the clunk in tailshaft is only when you take off which mine does not really do. He said mine does not have it but to keep an eye on it.
Is he talking shit?

Cheers

Slowing down or taking off mine never clunks, smooth as silk. Get angry Drysie, raise your voice and make a threat to complain about them to Toyota Australia. Your car is NOT right if it clunks. Warranty time.

10,000km after the new part no tailshaft was fitted and the clunk is back... I though it was all sorted but must be another bandaid from Toyota. I never should have sold my mighty Triton!! Now im stuck with this. The dealer will not take my word for it and wants me to bring it back in for them to confirm... Anyone else had a problem with the new shaft yet?

yep I had the new shaft fitted and within 10,000km's its back, when i questioned the Service Manager he just shrugged his shoulders and said there is no further fix, I really can't wait to get rid of this Hilux, it rattles my teeth out, is too small, drinks diesel like a V8 yet without the power, seats are rock hard, Fuel gauge not accurate, clunky driveline, engine has horrible harmonics once over 2,000rpm, its just not a nice place to be in. but what to upgrade/change too ? a Ranger or Amarok or a converted US 1500 size pickup................

I'm at the 23000 km mark and the tail shaft clunk has just come back. This is getting ridiculous. I've had it regreased so many times but it's clearly just a bandaid fix. It did last a good 10 months too so I was starting to think that it had been fixed for good...

You have had some bad luck there guys. For the record Beta my new hilux hasn't skipped a beat. Smooth as silk and no complaints.
Ride? I carry a bit of weight and my tires are at 32PSI so mine gives me a more than acceptable ride. Don't know your set up.
Seats? Same, if not more soft and comfortable than your upgrade options (I have the feeling you should not have bought a 4WD).
Fuel? I came from a V8 ute and that comment you made is ridiculous. My fuel costs have halved (11Lt/100km) and the power button gives you as much speed as you could possibly want from a 4WD. It actually beats your upgrade options in a drag race.
Small? Not to me but it might be to you. Strange that your looking at similar sized cars though.
Harmonics? Absolutely typical diesel sound. So why did you buy a diesel if you don't like the sound?
Clunky driveline? Thats rare, mine is smooth as silk and has excellent gear changing.

Good luck with those other brands, by the way they have far more warranty claims and days off the road (look it up).
