Buying used without catch can

Postby Mac90 on Mon, 28 Aug 2023 1:06 +0000

Hi folks,

Does anyone know or have an opinion on how long it would take to run 2018-current SR5 without a catch can fitted before you might start to run into problems?

Context:
I'm new to hiluxs and modern diesels and I'm looking to buy an SR5 with <100,000km on the odo, age anywhere from about 2018 onwards.
I'll be coming from a nearly 30 year old patrol, so my knowledge and experience with the need for catch cans and newer engines is pretty limited.

If I was buying new or close to new I would be fitting a catch can immediately, but having looked at some slightly older vehicles (2018 with 70,000km for example) without catch cans I'm wondering if I'd be up for hefty mechanical bills in the near future to fix things, or if I'd still be pretty safe if I was to purchase and fit a catch can at this point in it's life.

Cheers in advance,
Mac

Not really up on this myself, but I have noted in a few posts that many seem to want to fit a catch can to even the.later model vehicles. I'd guess that if your damage is already done, then fitting a.can will only be helping a little bit,.bit then isn't every little bit of help a good thing?
That said ... If it's something you'd fit to a new vehicle because of the benefits it provides, then why not fit it to a second hand vehicle?

Catch can aren't needed with these newer engines.
I might be wrong.

2009 BMW X5 - destroyed by a hail storm
2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 - SOLD
