Excessive engine breaking

Postby Burb122 on Sat, 18 Dec 2021 12:10 +0000

Hi. Does this sound normal for the 2020/2021 2.8 . ??

Driving down long hills that require light minor breaking on them (corners) the car tries to engine break hard. Drops ~ 2 gears and Goes up to 3800 revs and just holds there dramatically until you force settle the vehicle by manipulating the pedal or brakes to try and raise the gear selection. Seems very unnatural and stressful for the Ute.

Maybe try manually selecting a lower gear going down steep hills? It's probably the electronics changing down gears because you're braking?
Remember that it's a 6 speed transmission and 5th and 6th are overdrive so it's no surprise since even 5th offers no engine braking.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

When it goes down the gears, flick the gearstick into manual mode then back to auto. Will 5ake it out of engine braking mode.

Just took another same as hikux model for a test drive. My normal route home etc. and sure enough it drives perfectly and no excessive redlining when you touch the brakes down hill. Do you guys think this would be a hardware or software issue?
