Hi guys,

So I think I made a huge mistake by getting the factory Toyota snorkel installed as I have been seeing lots of info stating that it is nothing more than a raised air intake. I would have thought that something called a snorkel would do what a snorkel is intended to do....

Have I buggered up? Is there a way to have them sealed completely so they are air tight or do I need to spend a small fortune getting a new guard and getting an aftermarket snorkel installed?

What are the issues you are experiencing? It's common to apply a little sealastic to the joins.

It's not so much in the fact I'm currently having issues, more so that I don't want to go through a deep puddle/hole etc if my snorkel is nothing more than a raised airintake and not an airtight snorkel. There is so much conflicting info n the subject. I have gone back to my Toyota dealer and have asked the question, but thought I would seek input from the brains trust here as well

its a bit of both but with the application of some sealastic and sealing up the drain below the filter, it will work as a snorkel.

If you are thinking about snorkeling, then you should think about sealing your ECUs and other electrical bits in the cab. It doesn't take long for water to get in.

Thanks for the replies hiluxxury Ok so I may be being a bit of a drama queen then from the sounds of it! I'm too lazy to do any of that, shall get my mechanic to sort that out next time I get something cool bolted to the lux haha

I just noticed your in Tas - yeah I'd definitely get it sealed up properly if I lived there. Also get your mech to put some rubber grease around you air filter to help it do its job.
