Excessive oil usage, exhaust smoke and oil dripping from exh

Hi guys,

2017 SR5 Manual - 75,000km (1 month out of factory warranty)

It just started blowing heaps of white smoke...smells really bad like burnt oil.
No apparent loss of power or unusual noise.
After I parked it, oil dripped out of the exhaust.
It has also used a lot of engine oil.

I rang Toyota, described the problem. The service advisor was pretty adimate that it was related to the DPF and booked me in for a DPF replacement in 2 weeks. He said I could keep driving? I'm not so sure.

Could it be a turbo seal?

Just wondering if anybody else has had any similar issues.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Doubt a DPF would cause that much oil in the exhaust, sounds like a turbo seal leaking into the driven turbine.
Take care driving it, could run out of oil pretty quickly.

Good news, it turns out that the problem was a dodgy catch can filter. Unbelievable...who'd have thought?

Unlike a dealer to blame something after market.
Seems strange how a faulty filter there could make more oil enter the induction system seeing
the original design let all of that oil go through anyway.
Cant see it making the engine use more oil either.

Maybe the catch can was full or filter was blocked? If the motor cant breathe then it can cause the white smoke out of the exhaust and oil. A friend put a one way valve on the breather pipe to stop blow by on an old turbo motor and put the valve facing the wrong way (mechanics told him to do this before putting a catch can on), this then caused white smoke out of the exhaust and oil too.
