Will Toyota find out if you've got ECU remap

Want to hear some real stories, if you've got any problem claiming warranty after you have ecu remapped. An ex-toyota tech told me a while ago Toyota can see the difference but can't download the file so they can't prove it's an ecu remap. But they can reload the OEM files to erase the remap.

I'm not after dpf delete etc only remap with everything stock. Is there anything particularly to be aware (readings, parameters etc)? How's the EGR cooler leaking on this car? (Had some really bad egr experience on an Amarok....)

Haven't got the car for too long so not sure if I should remap it straight away. Thanks.

Yes. If they ever do any diagnostics and plug in the GTS tester.
Then if its under manufacturers warranty still that'll be now void.

Out of warranty though, they won't care what you do.

My question is, even if you removed it from the car when taking it to Toyota, can the OEM ECU tell its been bypassed? (I heard the BMWs can)...

Well you can only "remove" the ECU remap by replacing it with the OEM so why would you? Unless of course you could remap it after seeing the dealer? I may be wrong but as far as I understand if you "remap the OEM back to stock" it's kind of like formatting a harddrive.

Yeh sorry the mods removed the rest of my message because I included a link.

I was asking about the Unichip which is a piggy back ECU....This can be tuned by the tuner and bypasses whatever map is in the OEM ECU....When you take the car back to the dealer you can remove the Unichip unit and it leaves no physical footprint. So the dealer cant see it there. However I heard with some BMW cars the OEM ECU can trace the piggy back ECU, was wondering whether any one heard the same with the Toyotas?

Depends where it plugs in, they can see if a non OEM plug has been fitted, and it doesn't "bypass" the OEM, just modifies the signals instructing the ECU.

Yeh I think with the Unichip it comes with a additional harness too that plugs into the OEM harness, so no cutting of wires etc.

Yes but I understand Toyota use a unique plug which allows them to see if someone has plugged something else in. I also think the OEM ECU keeps a log on performance so it is entirely possible that they can "read" if there have been changes to the normal operation of the ECU. In the gen8 I would definitely wait until after warranty before fitting a chip.

Read this thread and then decide if you want to tinker with the gen8 ECU

The Plug in ECU's are obvious. Doesn't alter the factory settings, just works around them.

Having a reflash done to the factory ECU is less noticable to the eye, but the digital software codes are changed and very obvious once the GTS tester is connected.

Out of warranty, and as long as you have good backup from the aftermarket ECU manufacturer/agent, I'd say go for it ....if its a decent system.
Lots of crap out there so do your homework!
