2.8 60,000k and weeping /leaking oil

Postby Kris NT on Mon, 23 Jul 2018 7:00 +0000

So my 2016 SR5 has created an oil weep / leak
Has anyone else had any issues with rocker cover gasket at the rear leaking ?
The weep / leak can Cleary be seen and also the oil stain is down onto the bell housing and can Cleary be seen also.

Would this be covered by warranty ?

Toyota as usual palmed it off , they said the rocker cover bolts were loose and they wiped it clean
I need another issue sorted under warranty next service so I’ll be looking to see if anymore oil is leaking

Its a big job to remove and replace the rocker cover to fit a new rubber gasket , so its not surprising they nipped it up a bit just to get you through warranty.

My car is booked in for 70,000k service , I have informed Toyota the oil leak is still there and that I want it fixed under warranty , they replied that they have re check the oil leak and I will be advised on what will happen from there , the weep has gotten worse and more area covered in oil now. I doubt they even touched the rocker cover bolts as the engine bay is dirty and there is no sign of any tools or hand / arm prints present.

keep us posted mate. doing the rocker cover gasket also involves new injector R&R with new seals so its not a smallish job.

i have heard of a few people needing a new vacuum pump , but this is the first i have heard of the transmission coming out to fix it. It is very tight back there but surely they can just remove the engine mounts and inch the engine forward a bit for access???

keep us posted mate
