I checked mine today.
Only 5k.
Did one high country trip.
Right hand side corner of the airbox (closest to the radiator), outer filter edge and slightly on top of the edge had fine dust on it in that corner

After looking at the whole assembly more closely I think this could be easy fix without changing airbox design.
What they need to do is make the seal on the filter more "fatter" (thick) and then it should make proper seal when top lit of the airbox is placed on it.

I've had a K&N Filter on my 2016 SR5 for the last 40,000klm & cant find a spec of dust getting anywhere past it so far touch wood

Last few lines are great replacing intakes for those who are or will be travelling in dusty environments..... BUT- replace with what? Another same non-perfect Intake? How is this any differnt to keeping the original intake and giving it a clean? Either way it doesn’t perform as it should. No mention of the actual cause from Toyota yet, (housing mould/shape or filter thickness not adequate) and no mention of intended rectification....
