Gday all
What is the maximum boost people are seeing on their 'luxs?
The most I've seen, via a scanguage, is 14lbs. On bookface their are some claiming 18 to 20lbs on a standard motor.

6.5psi on my V6! I wonder how long a standard diesel would live for running 20psi?

21 psi on my diesel.
Only engine mods are egr restrictor and steinbaur chip

Stock I believe 14-16 psi is the most it can go.

I run 35-36 psi in my ute

Does anyone one know if my high boost is because of something faulty.
Like I said only mods are steinbaur and egr plate, to my knowledge neither of these should increase boost, but not 100% on that one.
TOYZ said he has seen boost that high with a faulty stepper motor, but I have had no engine light or limp mode?

Is 20psi bad and should I be looking for something faulty?

Are you talking tyre pressure here ?

Depends how/where it is measured... Some you need to deduct atmospheric pressure. if this is the case 36 psi less 1 ATM =around 12-13psi boost. Boost is anything above atmospheric pressure. Does this make sense?

Tyler, it is possible 20psi max is because your egr plate/restrictor reduces exhaust bleed through the egr thus increasing what you see on the boost gauge. Could be faulty stepper leaving the vanes in the wrong position though? Engine light would normally indicate if there is a problem though.

Edit...oops maybe I could have explained that better... Egr plate increases exhaust gas volume/pressure in the manifold which may spin the turbo up better thus increasing boost. Not sure about steinbauer though whether it increases boost by fiddling the sensors.

Edit edit.. Somewhere boxhead talked about the variability of boost measurements depending on where you tap the gauge in.

The egr plate will help spin it up faster but the computer should still dictate what max boost it unless the chip is altering it. Shouldn't be that high tho if measured at the correct spot.

If this is the bloke I'm thinking of on modified, he's not talking tyre pressure at all.

I have tapped into the boost line where it comes out of the manifold, just before the map filter.

So really the reading should be the same as what the factory sensor is sensing.
I’m just starting to get abit worried now that there could be something wrong and sure enough it will raise its head when I’m out in the middle of nowhere

Sorry another engine mod is a modified exhaust. Stock dump pipe with no cat that joins to a 3 inch to the back with a hotdog muffler

What happens when you pull the chip out? Id be worried its running lean with that much air getting shoved in there!

No change in boost with the chip unplugged, that was my first thought.
Only difference with it out is power loss and slightly lower EGTs, boost remains the same

Have also tried a different boost gauge caus I thought maybe the redarc one was off.
But both gauges read the exact same

Check out boxhead's views on where to tap in:

Yep but I would not t into that as it will fudge the map sensor. Not by much but data does not lie. I would tap a new hole somewhere just for the boost guage.

I have seen heaps taped into the steal pipe from the turbo to the intercooler. Easy to take off and drill I guess. 4 10mm bolts and a hose clamp.
Also if you tap into the map hose you will get fluctuations in the reading due to the throttle plate opening and closing as it needs to. By putting it in the pipe you will get the exact boot reading uneffected by the egr and throttle plate

Tyler, your exhaust would have some effect also because the gas flow is improved.

Thanks for that gipsy!
I might try to tap into a different place and see if it affects the readings.
If the readings are the same do you think it’s something I should worry about?

And no sorry silver fox mine is 2010
