Exhaust System

Postby NebulaLux5 on Sat, 24 Jun 2017 9:01 +0000

Hey all. Just wondering if anyone has a new exhaust system on their Lux? I'm looking at an XForce PFB 3" Stainless Steel to suit my 2.8 D4D GUN126R Lux. Has anybody else found an exhaust system to suit this make of HiLux? Legendex are still developing an exhaust system for the GUN126R and XForce is another choice on my plate.

Cheers

This I the email response from TaipanXP I received earlier this week... I know what I'll be asking Santa for!!

'We have bought a 2.8L Hilux to do the R7D off for the exhaust and are waiting for a new set of DPF’s to come in we are hoping to have the system built and on the vehicle in the next 8-12 weeks and then test it out with a goal of having it available for release in the new year.'

When I first started reading it I thought it was a generic response the same as 2016, but apparently they are waiting on New DPFs.

Does the current model Hilux have a dash button to allow for a manual DPF burn (like the 200 series)?

decided to unbolt my muffler to see what it would sound like. Didn't sound much different at all. I think any DPF back exhaust is going to be a waste of time. Not sure what the pipe diameter is, but it looks at least 2.5". Cats and DPF are probably going to be the biggest restriction in the stock system.

I had a new lux on the hoist the other day and I didn't even know it no exhaust untill I got underneath it. This thing just had straight pipe to the back and dumped over the diff, was a custom job. Seemed like he'd waisted his money!

Postby Hiluxtorv on Tue, 25 Jul 2017 9:09 +0000

Hey everyone,
Has anyone changed their exhaust on their hilux ?
I've got a 2.4 t/d and considering getting a exhaust from the flange before the muffler/back.
Anyone changed it and have any feedback ?

Pointless. Due to the dpf filter there isn't any change in exhaust note with any replacement system . I unbolted my exhaust after the dpf and ran it straight out no muffler, around the block and couldn't notice and noise difference . This was on a n80 2.8 by the way .

Anyone changed their exhaust?

Postby Hiluxtorv on Tue, 25 Jul 2017 1:32 +0000

Hey everyone, thought I would start a new thread seeming the other ones have died off.
Ive been considering a exhaust for my 2016 2.4 td hilux, basically just a straight through piece to replace the muffler.
Has anyone changed exhausts ?any difference in power, economy ? Does it make no difference due to the dpf ?
Cheers

The dpf controls tge while thing. I've had a couple on the hoist at work with straight thru pipes and ya still cant hear them. If there was more flow there'd be more noise!

All depends on the exhaust and if you do a DPF delete with a cat or without a cat. I know that some places like Manta Performance in WA have two different options for exhausts. DPF delete or Turbo back. If you go about the DPF delete they give you the choice of loud, medium or quiet for exhaust note. Not sure if they have your vehicle though. You will gain the slightest power increase because upgrading the exhaust allows the engine to breathe more freely and with a better exhaust it allows the gases to flow out much more smoothly

No, it only impacts warranty on components directly impacted by the modification - the modification had to be proven to have caused the fault requiring warranty

I'd be more worried about the EPA implications of removing a DPF if you go down that route. I know if guys who've copped fines in excess of $15k

The issue is that diesel soot contains carcinogens and this is why dpfs and other particulate capturing mechanisms have been brought in by law.

Some cities and countries are banning Diesel engines altogether and the next round of euro emissions have many forecasting the death of diesel in consumer vehicles.

What this means is that the fines associated with dpf deletes are huge , and most states are ramping up their chase of anyone doing so, road tests, annual checks etc etc.

So whichever way you go might be wise to keep dpf and stay quietish with the note.
